I had the most amazing morning today.. It was super windy as I got out of the car. My husband who is amazing says with a straight face. Is your hair going to come off and offers me his hat.. I thought that was hilarious because mines is bonded and nothing pulls this mess off...

It got me to thinking about the journey I have endured. 15 years ago I progressed from AT to AU and thought it was horrible as a teenager now I think it could have been worse. What is hair? It is something that we use for what?? To keep our heads warm... I watched a movie in which the women in India shaved their hair at least once in life because it was a sign of vanity. So I realized as I tend too that this ride isnt that bad.. True I would love to spend less money buying hair and hair pieces but I could be buying cancer medicine and hoping for a miracle called life..

Hair is a security blanket. It allows us to feel beatiful and not stick out. Bald is weird and different. But I have seen some women on here who's beauty stood out because of their baldness. Now personally my head looks like an alien so I have to buy something. :) But I just think at my age I have to stand and be strong and continue to fight this ride because if I dont then I am allowing myself to be consumed with the vainness of having hair. But I would like just enough for a buzz cut.. :) Again, Im reaching...

This journey isn't easy but you have to take control of it. If not Alopecia will control you. LIVE, LOVE, AND LAUGH

Your attitude is inspiring I know hair is A security blanket I always did a lot of different styles and was never afraid to cut my hair. I used to say to my friendS its only hair it will grow back. Those words stick in my mind I will never sAy those words again. I am still adjusting its been 7 months .. Clare

It takes time. Its like anything. You need your grieving period. At this point there is nothing I can do but be positive. Trust me it gets better. Have your bad days and good days...

Hi Trina - nice blog. I have to comment, though, about your statement: "Bald is weird and different."

I'm bald, and have been for 3 years now. I can't do a thing about being bald, and I can't stand fake hair or even scarves most of the time. The main thing I believe about this whole AA thing is that a bald woman looks "weird" only because so few bald women are "out" in public. The only way for bald to become less weird for women is for more of us to be seen, just as bald men have become commonplace and even fashionable. Believe me, I know how hard it is to go out in public bald, having recently had the experience of being seen as totally alien, as described in my blog:

We are who we are, and we have as much right as anyone, male or female, hairy or hairless, to be comfortable, cool and free.

Happy 2011 to all,
Mary
