Will there ever be a cure for alopecia? Can it be reversed?

Do anyone know of a cure for alopecia? I have heard that some medicines can reverse alopecia, but so many on the market and I wonder do they work. I also heard that vagina yeast cream have grew  peoples hair back I never tried it but I am going to.    I guess when you are desperate you try anything.

I believe that we have to nourish and revitalize the skin. Hair is part of healthy skin.

I think I have found a successful way to "cure" alopecia areata. I have had extremely successful results through treatments from my dermatologist and a separate company that specializes in alopecia. Check out my page to see my before photos. I had a patch the size of a tennis ball and in 8 months it looks like this.

Helon,

I will not say there is no cure.   In my case, there was indeed cure - substantial if not 100%.   When I was your age 30 years ago, my case was diagnosed as acute AA but fortunately in my case the Doctor who treated me in Dubai was one of the best in the given field and he put me on the right line of treatment.  It worked well for me and in a matter of months I regained much of my lost hair on the scalp and eyebrow.  I have no patches on the scalp now.   But the growth of my eye lashes proved to be stubbornly irreversible.   He is still around in Dubai - here's the link:

There is another cure that has been in trials now for some time with very promising results. See the following link: http://blog.baldgirlsdolunch.org/alopecia-drug-treatments-may-requi... . It refers to Ruxolitinib which is a treatment for bone marrow cancer to the best of my knowledge. I have been following this for a while and am very excited by it. I have had AU for about 4 years now, and am quite used to it. But I am still considering trying the treatment. I live in a part of the world at the moment where I can buy virtually anything over the counter. I may attempt this treatment early next year, I will post my results.

Dom,

Follow this link to see the results of the FDA trials (The American government is very strict on these trials). True they are not done, but the results are clear.

I am not selling anything, I am merely posting the link to the research. And I will be using myself as a guinea pig on this drug.

There are all kinds of witches brews out there and people trying to sell you stuff. There is no cure but there is one thing that will bring hair back for awhile and that is Minoxidil so far that is the only true thing that works. But is only temporary until another stressor causes your hair to fall out and that could be years or that could be months. You do have to use it every day. You can buy the generic because it is cheaper, it is over the counter. I get it at Kmart. Like many other things it does not work for all but I think that is because they don't follow the directions. It didn't work for this time because I was tired of applying it twice a day. Best of luck and don't be a sucker for all the expensive things that really do not work.

It's important to distinguish between treatment and cure. Everything listed as a cure are only treatments. There is no cure. There are treatments to put alopecia in remission. Some work for some and not for others. There is no cure as of yet, and no potential cures are being tested. Treatments are being tested.

Very true Gary.. it will go into remission for how long who knows so we just work with what we get.

I have had alopecia universalis for 45+ years. The last time I had any hair at all anywhere on my body was 1970.

The blessing is that this cond is not seen as detrimental, or as much of a health threat obviously as MD, cancer, etc. So there are no telethons to raise money or more importantly, to raise awareness for this condition. But that is also the curse. Not much money for research because its not seen as a priority so not many people know about it, or about the psychological detriment it can have on someone. I don't see a cure ever. But the biggest problem is not the hair loss, but the mass ignorance, that comes with it which comes in many forms, often worse than simply natural curiousity. I've been through it all. So lets find a cure for ignorance. that will help a lot of people. Mark Hansen Milw.
