Hello...I'm coping pretty well. I have had AU for about 2 1/2 years now. The first year was realyl really rough, but then I got used to the condition. It's still annoying, but I'de say 95% of the time, I don't even think about it. I never thought that day would come, but I'm happy it did ; )

Thats ironic about the hats...lol!! Freedom wigs are a vacuum wig. they are form fitting and never shift even in the toughest wind. also since they are a vacuum wig you can do an updo..medium high. they arent from Amy's Presence. they are supposed to be so soft and not hot or itchy like conventional wigs. im looking forward to getting the 2 samples tomorrow or monday. the dealer for my part of the country is karen at www.newlifehair.com. im thinking of getting mine like hers..she's the blonde on the top part of the transformation gallery.

Hello Kathleen!

Thank you for the friend invite!! Thanks also for the compliment- no I do not wear a hair piece- what you see is my hair. For the past 5 1/2 years I have been dealing with constant spots... a new bald spot pops up and then starts to regrow hair...as another area falls out!! ugh!!! I do have a spot currently that is causing me some trouble as it is hard to hide (at the crown of my head). I wonder if I shouldn't buy either a wig or a topper of some kind.... but for now I can arrange my hair and with the help of hair spray still cover it...fingers crossed it does not get worse!

How are you? Hope you are hanging in there!! I know how frustrating hair loss can be!

Have a great night!
Heather

Happy Birthday Kathleen. I wanted to welcome you and wish you a happy birthday. How are you? I have alopecia and wear a synthetic wig. It is a nice wig and fits my personality. What options in "Hair" are you considering?

Well, I've been wearing wigs before I had alopecia! When I was modeling I had all sorts of styles and colors so the transition to wearing them all the time wasn't very difficult. It was about 25 years ago.
My ex husband wasn't around when I lost my hair -- he knew I had universalis. He just didn't like the idea of me telling everyone about it in the book.

I've been wearing a wig so long, I don't know what I would do if my own hair grew back! (Of course, I would love to have it, though!) I have several different kinds of wigs, synthetic and human hair. I wear easy-care synthetic when I'm working out or traveling(easy to wash) or when it's raining (won't droop in the moisture) , and human hair (European) the rest of the time. Wigs can look beautiful and natural and be fun to wear.
Yes, I have very supportive friends! They are wonderful! My ex-husband, however, was not so supportive -- he was embarrassed by the book.
I had to rewrite it and edit him out.

Kathleen, I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do...
