HI - we are organising a get together in Auckland on the 4th of October from 1-5pm. I know it is far but if you are interested in attending drop me a line on here and I will get back to you with directions. Will be really nice to get together, meet other alopecians, make new friends and have some fun.
Look forward to hearing from you. Kath

Hi Helen,
I will be 60 in October. I have had alopecia for about 2 month or so. Have an appointment with the doctor in 2 weeks. I can't believe I have lost so much hair in such a short time. I hope I can get some answers when I go. I also have support from 4 children, my husband, and 4 brothers and 2 sisters. As soon as I tell all of them. My daughters and my sisters know. Also my husband, of course. He's not sure what to think.
Please take care. Will talk soon.

How awesome you went without your wig, big step, good on you, I can imagine the heat would of been pretty bad.

I would love to visit USA someday We have been to Disneyland in Los Angeles Scarves are not too expensive but I am not realy a sewer what size do you make as my sister has offered to make some for me. Living here in New Zealand we have such along way to travel to other countries. We have done a bit of traveling to Europe England and Thailand a few years ago. Our children are grown up now and we have five grandchildren. So I guess I am lucky that I have had hair till this stage of my life still it is difficult to cope with some days.
cheers Helen

Hi Helen nice to meet you, even if it is under such frustrating circumstances. Our daughter Nicole developed alopecia when she was 8, she is now nearly 12 and AU,
cute as a button and getting on with life. Your trip sounds wonderful, with all the rain we have been having escaping to sun sounds like a marvelous plan lol. Anyway lovely to meet you. Take care and enjoy your holiday.
Luv Sharon

Hi Helen. I am from Auckland and lost all my hair about 8 years ago - I was 30 when it happened. I know that it is so hard, however you sound well on track with getting scarves and a wig. I wore synthetic wigs for years before I got a real hair one (the costs is a lot of course). Do you know about the subsidy that you can get to help buy the wigs? Any wig manufacturer can help you here. I wear scarves alot and I agree it will be easier and more comfortable when it is hot. I suggest you take your wig and then lots of scarves. You may feel more comfortable out at dinner with a wig, and then scarves during the day. Another option is summer hats. I have a few that are quite low when you wear them and I swear noone knows that there is no hair underneath. At the local chemist I have found a good selection in nice styles and fun colours. Be strong and feel free to contact me if you would like to chat. I know how it feels. Kath

Hi Helen,
I know how hard this can be. Your so fortunate that you have your family! If you could use some more support, I wrote a book for women with alopecia, called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It's brand new. Check it out on my page, and if you want to order it, click the link, or cut and paste: www.leslieannbutler.npauthors.com and you will get it at a savings! Please let me know if you need to talk.

Hi Dawn,

my dad lost all his hair to alopecia when he was 60 as well. He has grown it all back and the doc said it is because he had his first bout at 60.
