Hey Donna- Yeah when I joined this site, one of the gals-Julia- was asking for people to volunteer their stories for her book so I said I would. I thought it would be nice to share. I hope it helps someone going through their alopecia. You know I was looking in the mirror the other day and I think I see an eyelash growing back. I am hoping there are more to follow!! How is your summer going? Mine has been pretty busy- observing at the Lewiston Vet Clinic, work, taking online animal nutrition class, and gardening. It's kind of late in the summer but I've finally got some tomatoes growing! have a good week:)

Hi Donna, about the little diddy on my page, I love it too, I have to remind myself some days that it's all about attitude. For the most part, I'm good, but sometimes, I'll get a comment that unnerves me and I have to breathe in, release and stroll away in confidence.

Hi Donna,
How are you today?
I am wondering how you liked my book -- what do you think? Did you get any good stuff out of it?
Can't wait to find out!
Hugs, LeslieAnn

Hi Donna,
Hope this finds you doing well today. I am on a mission for a new"do". While I love the headbanded hair( it is sewn right to the actual band) I am ready for a change. I am thinking of going with a layered style and a bit lighter.
My normal hair used to be light brown (now not only spotty but gray and white) and with the wigs I have stayed a shade darker ( med brown). I like them but am just ready for a change.
I am looking on a website I have ordered from before
called beautytrends.com. They are very reasonable, even if they are synthetic. Now I just have to make up my mind... LOL-
Have a good rest of the week. TTYL.

Hi Donna,

There are support groups, an exhibitor section, meet and greets, and a dance that is like no other! Here is the conference brochure that you can look at for this year.

Hi Donna,
The smiley face on my head is the logo for the MSN group called Alopecia Areata Support Community in which I am a member of. You are welcome to join. One can never get enough support. I actually started a trend when I got this tattoo. The other manager has it tattooed on her upper back and another member on her wrist!!! It's adorable isn't it? Thank you for the comment.
Love and Hugs,
Dotty

Hi Donna,

I guess the conference is a lot like this site. I find that with Alopecia visual is so important and to see others living their lives fully, getting married, having kids, careers, gives us the extra push to get out there and live. Seeing women and men that I thought were beautiful with wigs, with hats and scarfs or bare ... helped me see that hair is not a prerequisite for beauty or better yet, worth. Plus you can go into a support group that is more specific to your needs. IE: Single, married couples, parents of kids with alopecia... A lot of the photo's on my page are from the conference.

Just wanted to drop by and say Hello. Sorry to hear of your buddy passing. Animals play so many roles in our lives & we certainly miss them when they are gone.
I love the "do" you have now too. It is very becoming. I was looking thru your photos- you and your hubby make the cutest couple! It is wonderful when you are married to your best friend. Mine cut the remainder of my hair too. Talk about unfemininity/ unsexy feeling!!!! Talk about one who plays it safe - I too have stayed close to my own hair as it used to be.
Maybe one day I will venture into the wild and wicked styles they have out.... But not now...
Nice to meet you!

Hey Donna!!!

Believe it or not, the Black hair salons and Korean beauty supply stores (and wigmakers) are probably your best option for finding petite wigs. Most major brand wigs (i.e. Raquel Welch, Tony of Beverly, Rene of Paris, European Naturals, etc.) have petite wig sizes for petite heads. Going to a Black or Korean hair supply store or salon and you can learn to do quick weaves, which don't really require you having hair to do, and it gives you even more flexibility for trying out new styles!!!

Yes, the pictures are new -- they're for Julia's book project. Glad you like them!!!

Hi Donna, I wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading your blogs and insight. You have the ability to really be honest and to express it. A quality that does not always come naturally to me and I admire it in you. Looking forward to learning more from you. Take care. Cheryl.

Are you going to the conference this year?

Donna,

I am so glad to see that you are becoming more comfortable with yourself!!! One thing I used to do when I wore wigs was to find one color, stick with it, and then find all kinds of different styles -- long, short, curly, straight, whatever tickles your fancy! I have noticed that because wearing wigs and weaves and hairpieces is becoming the norm, what we would normally consider drastic really isn't anymore. What do you think?

Donna I love what you wrote on your profile. Yes, I'm definitely getting used to the idea to accept whatever happens. Actually I'm kind of just anxiously praying for it all to fall out at this point. I'd rather be totally bald then dealing with these patches. Pray for me! Yes that's my dog...she's a Doberman and the love of my life. :) I see you like animals, too. The tattoo is real. Looks kinda not real in the picture cuz I had just gotten it done and it sorta swollen and covered in ointment. It's a symbol from a video game that basically is a symbol of courage. Anyways, so nice to meet you and keep in touch, ok?
