Apologies for not getting back to you sooner but I am always really busy when I get back from holiday.
My personal story on my home page explains how long I had Alopecia Areata for and how much hair I had lost before I shaved it off. I was then diagnosed as having an under active thyroid and quickly prescribed thyroxin tablets. The actual name is Levothyroxin.
I started taking the tablets near to the end of January this year and about a month or six weeks after starting the tablets I noticed that I had slight re-growth in the patches on my head. As I had AA I had to shave my head every day or the patches were much more obvious. Even when I had shaved you could see “a map of the world” on my head due to the areas where the hair had not fallen out. If I left it a few days the patches where there was hair still growing became even more obvious and you could feel the hair growing quite a lot. After starting the tablets I started to feel small thin hairs growing in the patches that had been bald.
Despite this I continued to shave most days but late in August my wife commented that the patches on my head had disappeared and that although I was still bald due to the fact I was shaving every day, she felt that it would grow back if I just stopped shaving. She encouraged me to do this and sure enough I now have full re-growth.
All in all it was about 6 weeks for the hair to start re-growing and 7 month for the hair to have become thick and to have changed colour back to my natural colour.
Tyvärr ingen skillnad för min del. Vet att många med alopeci äter just Levaxin för sin sköldkörtel. Men jag tycker du ska kolla din! Ett enkelt blodprov bara.
