I am 51 and about five months ago, I lost a few patches of hair on my head and on my beard. It has gotten worse over the last months and I finally went to see a dermotologist. He said I could try steroid cream, injections, or Rogaine and they may or may not work. This has really hit me pretty hard. Turning 50 was hard enough, and this is not helping at all.

Hello Jeff, welcome! Hope you find the support and some of the answers you need here, it's a great site. If you are thinking about shaving your head take a look at my blog "Thinking of shaving? I did!" it may give you some ideas of products and ways to do it. And if you have any questions just let me know.
Thanks for the welcome. I already have male pattern baldness and I have accepted it with grace. Now with the Alopecia, I look like a chemo patient. I just had my hair buzzed to about 1/4" to even things out. Any thoughts on a complete shave of the head? My wife and kids have been very supportive, but I don't want to embarass my teenagers any more than needed. Cheers to all. -- jeff
