I have had alopecia since I was a junior in high school. One day my hair just started to break off and then fall out and that was that. I went to a dermatoligist and had a biopsy done and was told that I had alopecia. For the next five years I just pretended that it was no big deal I kept wearing weaves and tried out different styles. I didn't take the medicines that the doctor prescribed I just figured she was mistaken. My hair continued to fall out and in some spots it grew back but in others my hair follicles were dead.
When I was pregnant with my daughter my hair grew to be so long and thick and beautiful that I thought all my problems were solved. Five months after she was born the spots starting thinning out again.
I have finally excepted that I have Alopecia and am coming to terms with it a little more each day. I have decided to look into some wigs and I am currently wearing my hair short. The hardest part is convincing myself that I am more then just my hair.

Hi Nicole,I know how hard it can be. I have had alopecia for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It might make you feel better. Check it out on my page -- and let me know how else I can help.
