The View upset quite a few members of Alopecia World this week. After announcing that the newly crowned Miss Delaware Kayla Martell has alopecia areata, the show's hosts veered into a discussion about whether black or white women look better bald! After viewing this controversial clip, please share your thoughts. If you would like to send feedback directly to the View, go here.

I am not offended, but disappointed that they made a joke of a medical issue. Would they have done that if the issue had been someone in a wheelchair, or challenged in some other way? TV programs like The View have a great opportunity to educate... and they didn't take it. But then, that's why I don't watch much TV.

Sadly mainstream America thrives off of such gossip columnists. Why all the negativity in most media venues? It's my prayer that for the less confident alopecians - - they continue to follow the hopeful Miss America! And not be influenced by the gossip of a handful of opinions.

I think it is funny - don't lose your sense of humour and certainly don't personalize this!

I take it personally bc I have met other Alopecians who are very insecure, sad, angry bc things some people say. I realize their intentions were not bad it's just who they are (mean). I'm with Sara.
Sadly there's not enough compassion out there!

Catherine,

I think you are on the money about people being insecure, sad and angry. I know when I first started loosing my hair I cried every day and seeing that would have really ticked me off at the time. It is just inconsiderate of others to be caddy. My thought was some women can't afford a wig and being bald is the only option at the moment so making crued comments is an attack to people trying to deal. I am thankful to have understanding people in my life.

I think it was supposed to be a joke....... let's not take this so personally - we have to be able to laugh at ourselves and not be so defensive.
