The View upset quite a few members of Alopecia World this week. After announcing that the newly crowned Miss Delaware Kayla Martell has alopecia areata, the show's hosts veered into a discussion about whether black or white women look better bald! After viewing this controversial clip, please share your thoughts. If you would like to send feedback directly to the View, go here.

They are comedians that's what they do make jokes. I don't think they meant to offend people

we do laugh at ourselves, but in my opinion, some things r just wrong. i remember wearing a scarf one day and later hearing that someone in my neighborhood complained - "why didnt i wear a wig". to me, that was what the ladies of the view were saying - if your head is shaped funny, dont go out bald. if u r white, u will look like a conehead, dont go out bald. i enjoy a good joke, especially find the ladies of the view can be very funny. but, to me, this was way wrong. so should they say that a lady with had a mascetomy and doesnt want an implant must get one. lord knows u dont want to see a lopsided woman. hmmm - see --- not funny. and it is our right to complain when people in the public's eye do harm (even by accident). they r in the public's eye because of us, the public.
so i really find it just fine to let them know. maybe the ladies of the view will get to learn something?

I wasn't offended either. I was glad to see Kayla and see her so happy , finally winning with or with out a wig, she so deserved the win. She is a WONDERFUL person. Also glad to see alopecia get some press. We need the buzz, like Susan said, it gets people talking.

I have AU and was not offended, the more it is discussed the more people will be aware of the issue. Many people have never heard of alopecia in any form.

The only problem I have with it is the shallowness and ignorance of it taking away from the focal point of this lovely young lady and her talents and contributions. Making a mockery of something you cant help having is wrong no matter how you color it. Im not too bothered by it overall though. Before I got alopecia, I was ignorant about the disease too, and probably took a skewed view of bald women and men not fully understanding what this disease does to people. There was a young girl on here who has it, and her classmates tease and harass her, even sticking their gum in her wig and take it from her and throw it around as if its her fault for having this disease. I have so much compassion for anyone who has this disease now. Miss Delaware should be proud of herself for standing up and acknowledging she has it openly and not trying to hide it. Maybe one day, that young girl who gets harassed might not have to go through all the shame shes enduring because someone had the foresight to use their position to educate the public about it.

I have AU and wear a wig. I wish I had the courage to go without. I wasn't offended by this piece though.

Some comedians and comediennes sacrifice empathy and politeness for the sake of the joke. It is a fine line...and those of us, especially females, who had to grow up with this (and watch our haired friends get to do all the things we dreamed of for our teen years) know very well when the line has been crossed. Moms of alopecian children learn some of this too, and may be even more protective as others get too close to the line. We walk away from The Insensitives in our worlds...I am sure Joy and Whoopie would be surprised how many fans they just lost by their insensitive "humor." The "just diagnosed" ones are still vulnerable, still deciding, still grieving, and may not yet be hardened to all this. Being compared to ANY negative Hollywood or TV stereotypes or images is a no-no, in my book.

You know watching that clip for a second time I can see why it was offensive to so many, but don't let them get you down!

Gossip - it`s just a gossip show; I don`t consider it a forum of discussion at all - just a gaggle of hens wasting air every day... use your channel changer.

They really blew it-but they weren't offensive -just very challenged about how to communicate. It's okay to say that some people (not races) have heads that look round and great without hair-I once saw a beautiful woman in an Museum in Amsterdam, wearing great makeup and earrings, who had AU, and I was jealous because I can't pull off that look. But there are ways of saying things and people on talk shows are "supposed" to know how to do that. What an opportunity lost.

And what about Whoopi- I had always heard that she has very little hair and wears a wig-wasn't it her time to get it all straight with everyone??!!
