I will start by saying that I AM NOT any kind of rep.

1. One of my friends sells a product that is called Protandim and she seems convinced it will help my hair grow back. According to its website, it supposedly "combats oxidative stress through Nrf2 activation" - whatever that means. Anyone ever heard of it? Any thoughts about it? I just want my hair to come back (at least my eyelashes to come back!) but I don't want to waste money on crazy, ridiculous stuff. Thoughts?

2. Has anyone with AU had luck with ANY treatment?

3. Has anyone who lost 100% of their body hair had any grow back?

Thanks for any info!

I have AU. I lost everything at the age of 38yrs and I'm 44yrs now and have never gotten hair since I lost it. I have never heard of Protandim, but again I really have not looked into any treatments. How much is the Protandim?

Keep me posted would love to no.

She tells me it's only like $40/mo BUT can't seem to give me a good explanation for WHY it would work and the supplement's website seem s kind of vague :(

1. Huh?
2. No.
3. Yes, but not on head. Just white hair around edges on head now. Arm and leg hair sparse, thank goodness.

I looked it up online. Multi-level marketing. Employees quitting. "Income opportunity." (Get suspicious on these!) Donny Osmond. Keep you alive to 120 years? Puh-leez. Chopra. Poppycock.

Protandim is a patented dietary supplement marketed by LifeVantage Corporation (OTCQB: LFVN; formerly LifeLine Therapeutics and Yaak River Resources, Inc), a Utah-based multilevel marketing company.[2] The manufacturers of Protandim claim the product can indirectly increase antioxidant activity by upregulating endogenous antioxidant factors such as the enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase, as well as the tripeptide glutathione. Like all dietary supplements, Protandim has not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and "is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease."[3]

Ha - wow - thanks :) The fact that she also thinks I should sell it made me suspicious too!!!! I think this is one of those things were I was starting to think - what could it hurt and what if I am missing out? Just needed someone else to tell me what I already was thinking. Have a great weekend!

I've fallen for some of these very claims myself, I'm not AU, but Im don't really know what yould call me, I have maybe 20% of my regular hair on my head, maybe less, I do have alot of white sparse hairs over most of my head, I dont have eyebrows, arm hair, only couple of spots on my leg with a few hairs, lost most of eyelashes, so Who knows anyone out there...What do I call this??? I tried some herbal remedies that I swear made may hair fall out. I've fallen into that trap of "modulation the immune system" thinking that I can turn off the switch that turned this on ten years ago, so far I've only had luck with Minoxidil, which I can no longer use because of a reaction to it, darn. The topical steroids didn't seem to help me much either, and Injections were futile with my pattern of hairloss. Someday science may come up with a real answer for us, I still hope so, as long as the side effects are not worse than hairloss I would try it. Until then save your money, I know I've thrown too much of mine at these people.

Hi ASRN,
1 never heard of Protandim...will have to look it up
2 I use rogaine 5% twice a day and steroid injections once a month
3 Not 100% but 85% regrowth on the scalp/face and near 100% on the rest of the body

Work in progress!

JeffereySF - what kind of alopecia do you have?

Currently AA.

Hi Jeff, glad to see you still on here!! Glad to hear also that the Minox, and injections are still working great for you. I remember when you first started it, and I was quick to follow, I was having success with it too, but no injections, just the Minoxidil, anyhoo I developed and allergy or just a sensitivity to it and had to stop, needless to say I've lost that 85% you gained back, none on arms or legs tho. (glad no facial hair)lol. So happy for you!! I decided to shave what was left and got a prosthetic just this week. A good choice for me
Christine:)

what do you mean by prosthetic Christine?

I think she means a high quality wig?

aha : )
