AA is on my face/ beard. possible thyroid condition the cause?

I was just diagnosed with aa, it is isolated to my face/beard area. Started as a small dime sized oval shaped patch on my chin. Now its spread considerably to other parts of my face. The dermatologist gave me Cloderm cream 0.1% been taking it for a week now, not much has happened. Hopefully it will stimulate growth. I'm new to learning about this condition, any advice suggestions are gratefully welcomed. I just took a thyroid blood test as well, still waiting on results. The dermatologist suggested that I take this blood test. I guess there could/may be a connection there? this has not spread to the scalp, I'm not really ready for that if it does. I've always had a full thick head full of hair.

Has anyone found any connections with thyroid problems and alopecia?

I also had to get a thyroid test when I first developed aa... everything came back fine. I think it can be a cause. While they are taking your blood get them to check you minerals and vitamins. I had 3 blood tests over 6 -7 years and only 6 months ago a homeopath picked up that there we deficiencies in my minerals all the other doctors overlooked it.

One of the classic symptoms of thyroid disease is hair loss. However, it has been shown that most AA patients develop some sort of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) at some point in time. In my case, I developed AA at age 4, went through 19 years of normal thyroid test results, only to be diagnosed with hypothyroidism at age 23. I never knew how major a thyroid problem could be until mine stopped working. So by all means, even if your thyroid tests come back normal (normal range is 0.3 - 3.0), keep watching it, because that test can change at any given time. I'm glad your dermatologist recommended it!

So my thyroid results came in today. My level was a 1.844, which is condsidered to be in the "NORMAL" range. In a strange way I was hoping it would be in the abnormal range, that way I would have a reason for all of these symptoms. Everything I've read about a thyroid condition mentions fatigue, hairloss, etc.

I've been taking the steroid cream for 2 weeks now with no results. I hope this stays on the face and doesn't get to other parts of my body. This alopecia disease is such a mystery to me any many others. hopefully someday we will understand more.

I have a thyroid condition that they picked up about 14 years ago ...im convinced its a huge part of what we are going through.
