I've had alopecia universalis for 14 years and convential medical treatments in my opinion do not address the cause.I've recently became a certified nutritionist and I've changed my diet in the last 4 years and have done a slow chelation treatment using Chlorella and I have grown 60 per cent of my head hair back with eye brows starting to sprout as well in the last two years. I would like to do a study of Alopecia sufferers by blood type as I feel there is a strong correlation. If you would like to submit your blood type please send me your blood type and RH factor ex: A+ O- etc and when I get a large enough sampling I will post results. I'm a type O+ BTW

The Normal distributions for blood types in North America is 0(45%) A (42%) B(10%) AB(3%). My hypothesis is that people with alopecia will be mostly O's and in greater percentages than the general population makeup...instead of 45%...maybe 70%+ O's

if you don't know your blood type you can buy a very inexpensive kit here

Can you send me more info on the diet you're on please? I fully believe that our diets, stress, other underlying illnesses, etc. contribute to the alopecia process. It's just very hit-or-miss when trying new and different things. Hard to determine what works and what doesn't.

Thanks!
Hi Gail. It might sound a bit restrictive but you can actually eat quite a bit of things that are anti-inflammatory . My naturopath recommends a 70/30 approach. Choose 70 of anti-inflammatory items and 30 percent inflammatory. This is the list she gave me:
Anti-inflammatory (70 percent)
Most fish (especially wild salmon, tuna and other non farmed varieties)
Sweet potatos, carotts, onion garlic (highly anti inflammatory)
Greens - including kale, spinach, brocolli, swiss chard, etc
fresh fruits (except bananas and high sugar fruits) in moderation - avacados are great!
fresh vegetables steamed or raw(eat fresh potatos and corn less than other vegs)
Seeds, nuts and sprouts (except peanuts)
Whole grains (non-wheat, non gluten) such as rice, millet, quinoa, teff, amaranth
Fish oil and healthy fats (olive, flax, EPO, borage, black currant)
Chicken and turkey
Egg whites
Legumes such as kidney and adzuki beans
Water

Try to limit the following inflammation causing foods (30 percent)
Wheat, corn and flour products and whole commercial eggs
Red meat (beef, pork)
Refined sugars
Peanuts, tomato and potato
Fruit juice and citrus fruits
Processed foods
Hydrogenated oils
Fried foods
Alcohol and coffee
Dairy products

I try to use a balanced approach and can't give up coffee or red wine. I also take fish oils daily.
There's a book that I really love called the Inflammation Free Diet. That includes recipes and more education on reducting inflammation in the body. It's actually less restrictive than these guidelines.
Thanks. The anti-inflammatory food list is pretty close to what I already eat. I do need to knock a few things off the inflammatory list though. It's a good thing it's a 70/30 split...I could probably live with that. I will check out the book. Thanks again.
Is the book the one by Jessica Black?
what blood type are you?

Hi Suzi,

I realise this post is very old but Ive just started researching the link between Candida and Alopecia. Please let me know how you progressed and what your results were.

thanks!!

As of today Well we have 19 respondents so far which is not enough for a study but the numbers so far are as follows

O - 10 (53%)
A - 5 (26%)
B- 3 (16%)
AB- 1 (.05%)

The Normal distributions for blood types in North America is 0(45%) A (42%) B(10%) AB(3%)

100 respondents would be meaningful
O negative here
I'm B+. Thanks for the study :)
I've chelated with alpha-lipoic acid to remove suspected mercury and found dramatic improvements to my memory and cognitive funtion. Spinach is a good natural source.

Thank you Mike for researching this. I'm sure your results will offer some clue to the cause of this di-ease. I am OPos. vegetarian diet for 18yrs with history of auto-immune challenges for 20yr.I will discuss further if you would like. I am presently in treatment with Chinese herbalist and the patches are filling in. I shaved my head 10mo ago and actually got used to "rocking" my new look. She suggested I grow it out so she can moniter progress. Keep me posted please on your finding and please know that I am a willing research canidate. Kalilah
