Kathy,
I too have hairloss from antidepressants. I was on citalopram and started noticing after 3 months my hair was falling out but it wasn't that bad. After I realized what it was I stopped but I have alot of hairloss now and am more stressed than before I took the meds. I researched and found that with ssri drugs it depleats the protien and amino acids from your system and we need that for hair to grow. I will NEVER go back on any med until I check it out completely. Is your hair regrowing at all? Please let me know how you are. Take care Diane
Hi Kathy!
well i stress a lot! and I mean a lot! speacially at school and work, and because i've been losing wait like crazy! i lost 2 punds in less of a week and eating ok, so i'm taking a lot of vitamins for the weight loss and some meds for depression and anxiety, I heard about Effexor but they didn't recommned it to me, they are call sodimel, i'm not sure if a mexian product but is good
take care
This is a very interesting topic... I was on Effexor (which is one I don't recommend-it was very difficult to wean off of and the withdrawl symptoms are unbearable) for 5 years and didn't have any hair loss except for the occasional patch. Only in the last couple years that I've been off it has my hair fallen out and its the most I've lost since I was a kid. I also recently started experiencing stress/anxiety really bad and started seeing a therapist to learn to manage it without going back on pills. She actually informed me that her niece went back on antidepressants because it help decrease the amount of hair she lost.
Unfortunately, there are still a lot of medications avaialable that cause hair loss as a side effect. Often the patients don't know all the side effects of the medications they get and then they wonder why they lose hair or have stomach problems. There are some very good treatments against hair loss that really help with regrowth and don't harm the body. I am not a fan of the very aggressive chemical hair growth stuff, there are some herbals that get much better results.
