First let me start off with a little info about me. I'm 53 yrs old, I have AU. I'm not currently under any treatment for it. I have asthma, seasonal allergies, and what seems to be the start of RA. My journey with AA started back in high school when I was about 16-17 years old. My sister put a relaxer in my hair for my birthday and after she washed it out, the entire right side of my head was completely burned out. To the scalp. Eventually it all grew back, but thats when the AA started in patches. Fast forward about 6 years later I became pregnant with my first child, and it started to progress. After my daughter was born I'd say about a year and a half, all my hair came out. Then my eyebrows, then the rest of my body hair. I've been living with AU for close to 30 years now.
I research and read a lot and always looking for ways to understand this disease and any correlations thereof. I read all the new clinical trials and try to understand the mechanisms for some of the medications used to treat this disease. What I've discovered is that the common denominator in most diseases, including this one, is inflammation and a whacky autoimmune system. Auto, meaning to destroy onto itself. Autoimmune, meaning the immune system is in overdrive to kill that which is normal, that which belongs. An immune system in over drive creates inflammation.
The common denominator I've discovered within myself is that I have 3 chronic autoimmune diseases, asthma, allergies, and now RA, and of course AU. Most of the clinical trials I've noticed are using medications for RA to treat AA/AT/AU.
I read about Astaxanthin last night and realized I'm going to give it a try. Although I do, now, have some hair growth that is dark all over my head, I want to try this out to see if it works. I read many reviews about this product and many people have noticed a few things that improved; hair, skin and nails, vision improvement, reduction in joint pain. I'm wondering if anyone here, with AA/AT/AU have experienced any other diseases that are considered autoimmune. It just clicked in my head that its possible that all these things are tied together in the cause and effect of this disease.
If any of you would like, please come here and discuss your thoughts on my hypothesis. I would also suggest that any of you do some research on this natural supplement and see all the things it does and how it may relate to you.
P.S. I also want to say that in my research on this product it says it helps to balance out an immune that is in overdrive, and kinda set the immune system on the right track and also reducing inflammation.

Also you might want to look in to leaky gut syndrome as well to see if that might be your problem, another thing too is to check your iron level some time low iron can cause hair loss.
I was thinking to myself that you might be low in iron, so are you taking iron supplement for your low iron? I my self suffer for many years with low iron but i was never anemic, until 2 months my doc told me that i have aneima, i was in total shock, so he put me on a high dose of iron supplement like 100 mg a day to bring back up my red blood count. I currently take this liquid iron supplement by salus floradix, but i will have to check my iron next month to see if this and the iron med the doc give me working. Yes and for adrenal exhaustion you can try natural food source vitamin C and Ashwagandha herb that might help. let me know how it goes
Ok, also i was not taking my iron on consistent bases and i have 3 son the last one is 4 year old, i'm guessing that could be a part the problem as well and i also suffer from heavy menstruation as well. so my doc told me i need to take 100 mg of iron per day for 9 months straight to bring back my iron level to normal so we will see how it goes, my problem is that i always feel sluggish but i know that just the low iron
