Hello,

I am hoping someone out there can share their experience of cortisone shots with me. I am having a tough time accepting my AA because it is right around the frame of my face so I can't pull my hair back at all.

I made the dreaded mistake of trying cortisone shots. Needless to say, I now have veins popping out and big dents around my face. Is there anyone out there who ever had reversal of the fat atrophy from cortisone shots. It has been almost 4 months and I have not seen any reversal from the shots.

I appreciate any comments from someone who had a similar reaction has mine.

Blessings,

Carla Schulte

My head dents filled in after I stopped the shots there, but it was years ago, so I don't remember the timing. My parents and I changed it to one cortisone shot in the hip instead. Much better, and less visible.

If I were you, though, I would get a second opinion about the vein thing.
Hello,

Thank you for replying. Unfortunatley, the cortisone shots caused fat atrophy so once I get the fat back I know my veins won't stand out. I just don't know if it is possible for the fat atrophy to reverse itself. I don't want to seek out doctors for a second opinion. To be honest, I no longer trust doctors. I have battled this for three years and the comments from doctors have been cold and callous. The last doctor caused more damage and misinformed me about the shots.

Thank you,

Carla Schulte
The lack of knowledge and empathy that the medical field has when it comes to alopecia is appalling. I feel that the doctors callous words and indifference to my situation was one of the biggest hurdles I had to overcome at the onset of my alopecia. I wish they would have just said, "we really don't have the answers for you" instead of just prescribing a "cranial prosthesis" and saying I should be thankful for my health.
Thankfully there are forums such as this to give us all the support and information that we so desperately need to make peace with this difficult prognosis.
BK,

It is comforting to know that I am not alone about my impression of doctors. I am so torn as to whether or not I will ever seek medical help again!! I am so hesitant to go for medical exams or check ups of any kind because I have lost all confidence in the medical field. I have begun to think that doctors only care about prestige and money. I hope I can be proven wrong! I don't mean to sound so negative but the comments I have received have been so uncaring.

I'm sorry Carla for my long drawn out comment that really didn't pertain to your question. I didn't see any comments until after I sent message.
Although I'm truly sorry for what you are experiencing.
I know this is a temp fix but you might be able to get an injectable filler to make it less apparent until the fat comes back. A plastic surgeon would be able to tell you if that would be possible
But why mess with the chemistry of the expensive alopecia meds? Why take stranger chances?
Life is a chance - One must weight the pros and cons of each decision and decide what is best for themselves. Having options is just that - an option to research and decide if that is what is best for themselves.
Hi LilyBell,

Thanks for responding to my discussion. I appreciate all the support I have received. It is nice to finally have found a place where others understand what I am going through. I need to learn to count my blessings.
Yes I used to get the dents if they injected too much and yes they always filled back in. Cannot say how long it took but it was probably 4-6 month range. I wouldnt worry about it, it will be ok. Try dermablend to mask the spots in the interim.
Hi Amy,

Thanks for sharing your experience with me. The doctor did multiple shots in the area. I lost a lot of the fat around my veins. Did that happen to you as well and did the fat come back? Sorry, I don't mean to be petty but I am having a difficult time with this. I have never been over concerned about my hair. Now my lack of hair is consuming my thoughts. I just want some reassurance that at least if I lose all my hair that my head will look smooth without veins popping out. I won't continue to go on about this but your only the second person who experineced something similar to me that I have spoken with.

Have a blessed week.

Hi Carla,
I was forced into the shots, and i started getting dents and veins popping out after my first treatment ive only had 2 treatments and more dents and veins im supposed to get a third treatment on the 20th, i dont want to have anymore treatments done, the dents make my head hurt because its so sensitive and i get bad migraines. the dermatologists dont listen to me nor do my doctors so you're not alone, i have no idea what to do either i just wanted to share that you're not alone. the doctors just tell me that its all normal or avoid any questions i ask when i talk to them, basically i did this for my hair to start growing back but before my shots, my hair WAS growing back so the shots werent necessary at all, to me the doctors are all idiots. i hope everything works out for you, as i have decided i am not doing anything more to my head and if my hair is going to fall out it can im not doing anymore lotions or potions because i dont need anymore side effects or dents or anything. its not worth it. goodluck
hugs. :)
