Cortizone shots for eyebrows / lashes?
Hi,
Has anyone gotten shots for brows and had success with them? I totally swore off all treatments. However, I have heard a few times of women going in every 6 wks to get shots and it works...sparse hair...but something. Also...do you think it would ruin my eyebrow tattoos? I wouldn't mind the pain at all....especially if theres a chance it would work. Just wanted to see if anyone else has tried.

I had 7 years' of cortisone shots to my bald spots on my scalp up until about a year ago. I was getting shots once a month for the last year, but the bald areas finally got too extensive for cortisone to be used anymore. Now I'm AU and smooth all over. I can tell you that the shots always resulted in hair growth, but I also always had indentations in my scalp in the areas of the shots. By indentations, I don't mean little pin-sized areas, but rather, quarter or dime-sized little depressions.
I was told this is normal, and they all went away in time. But, so did the hair. When I shaved my head, the last indentations were visible for awhile. Now I have tatooed brows and eyeliner, and I personally wouldn't consider getting cortisone shots in my eyebrow area because wouldn't want to have the indentations there. I also have no idea what the effect on the tatoos would be. But, if the hair stayed, I guess it would be worth having indentations for awhile. I'll be interested to hear if other women have tried it...this hadn't occurred to me.

I have had the shots before, but never had indentations. I wouldn't want them on my face though. How often did you get them?

I had cortisone shots to my scalp beginning when I was first diagnosed with AA in 2001. For the first 5 years or so, I only had new bald areas every few months, but I eventually progressed to needing shots about every month. They're painful, but the sting is brief.
Yes, I play several different kinds of ethnic drums - not the usual "trap" or "drum set" type. I'm hoping to have some videos up on my YouTube channel soon of a performance with my band last weekend. The music is Balkan dance music: Bulgarian, Greek, Albanian, Armenian, Macedonian, Turkish, and Romani (Gypsy).

I have got over a dozen treatments,and have had eyebows come back for a little awhile but never lasting .For the pain and the harm it is doing to the body .....ITS NOT WORTH IT .My question to you is im thinking of tattooing the eyebrows,did you go to a tattoo artist and get them.. Glen

The photo I have posted now shows my tattoed eyebrows and eyeliner. They were done by a "permanent makeup" artist - they prefer that term to "tattoo". I wish the liner was not so heavy, but that's my only problem with the work. I was never big on eye makeup, and it's just a little dramatic for me. The woman who did mine recommended brown for the brows and black for the liner. I kind of wish I'd insisted on dark brown or brown/black for the liner, but I went with what she suggested. Overall, I'm happy. She had 20+ years of experience, and I looked at a lot of photos of other work she'd done.

hmmm I don't see the harm in cortizone shots for the body...and I wouldn't mind the pain every 6 wks. honestly, I don't care about being bald, but I want my lashs and brows back.
I got permanent makeup done. I like it, but, it's just not the same. If you do go Glen, make sure you do your research, and take a look at their work! Some artists can do actual hair strokes (which was what I asked for and did not receive.) Mine look like pencil...so I don't like them too much. If you get the strokes, they look much more like eyebrows,. you may have to travel and spens a little more though.

I understand what your saying about the brows for me im trying to decide on tattoos,or go back to the cortizone shots again.. i just found out yale hospital does what you called the stroke way.im going to look into and think im gonna try it out ...Glen

Hey Glen,
Did you get the tattoos?
I got the hairstroke technique for the brows and little dots/strokes for the lashes.
It is totally different than permanent makeup.

Ya I lost one eyebrow and half of the same eyelash. I got cortizone imjection and the brow came back pretty well. The lash even grew back.

I get the shots. They seem to work but the last couple years my hair just wants to fall out. My first visit a year ago we did eyebrows. It hurt but my doctor said if it was something I wanted to continue we could apply some numbing ointment before giving the shots. I did see growth and even some eyelashes on the one eye that I'm missing them. But they soon fell out. I didn't try the eyebrows again because I've never had them as long as I can remember. My hair is light enough that no one really notices anyway but I have continued with the scalp shots. I do get the indentations on my scalp but I never got them on my brows.
I wouldn't know how it would affect the tattoos you had done, I guess that something you'd have to ask the derm.

HI,
Before going AU, I used to get the steroid shot on my head and it was working very well.
Beside a little pain, I never had any side effect.
Did that treatment for many many years and never had any indentations.
After becoming AU, I've tried the shots on my eyebrow.
I can't describe how painful it was... It was a real torture!!
I've tried to put 'EMLA' cream before the shot to ease the pain but still, extremely painful...
My eyebrow did grow back a little... however, I had the indentations....
This is a side effect of the steroid.... The only treatment to this is to stop the shot... so my eyebrow disapeared... and after a while (2-3 months!), the indentation went away.
