Hi Everyone,  I started on cyclosporine (200mg/day) and Olux-E foam (0.05%) 9 weeks ago and I'm starting to see little black tufts of hair all over my scalp. Trying not to get too excited but this is the first new hair growth I've had in about 5 years.  My derm said if it was going to work it would take 4 - 6 months.  I wonder how many of you out there have tried this combo with any success?

Hi Scott. You sure are thorough in your investigations! I'm taking 200mg/day and I weigh 150 lbs. Feel free to work that out. :)

Hi Cheri

Thanks, that's probably easier. I felt it rude to ask a lady her weight directly :)

Your mg/kg per day of cyclosporine is 2.95

That's good as that's a relatively low dose, meaning a person on this dosage is less likely to experience side effects and should be able to take the drug for longer.

How many times a day do you apply the Olux-E Foam ?

Olux-E Foam contains the 'superpotent' steriod Clobetasol Propionate. Unfortunately I can't get Olux-E Foam where I live so I will have to trial the cream alternative for now.

May I also inquire, how often do you have your blood tested for kidney & liver function ?

Hi Scott

I apply the foam 2x/day. The dosage is about a cap full each application. You use it for 3 weeks on and 1 week off.

I get my blood tested every time I see my specialist which is every 4 months.  They take 3 vials of blood so they must be testing a bunch of stuff. He has never mentioned that he is testing liver function but that might be the case.

Cheri

That's great, thanks.

How long after taking the cyclosporine did you notice the first signs of regrowth ? From my research it would seem it takes an average of 5 weeks for the first sprouts to appear.

According to my specialist, everyone is different.  It seems to depend on how long you've had the alopecia.  Since I have had AA for 10 years, he assumed it would take 4-6 months before I would see any results at all.  In my case, I was seeing little white/brown hairs by 8 weeks. My specialist was extremely happy that I showed hair growth so quickly.  Perhaps that is because I lost most of my hair only in the past 2 years.  Who knows?  I'm at 19 weeks now and I have about 80% regrowth and most of it is my natural hair colour.

Thanks for sharing your experience Cheri.
It's good to hear about your regrowth :)

Hi I just sent you a friend request.  I am on LDN but my specialist has suggested Cyclosporine but I am scared to try another immunosuppressant which won't work.  Would love to see the photos of your hair so I can make up my mind whether to start it or not.  I am based in the UK.  Kindest regards.  Vicki

Cyclosporine is just like Prednisone.

It falls out when you taper the drug or the side effects make you stop it.

Hey buddy good to see that you came back. It's better to stay informed.

Hey Buddy, return - life

Look at the post below from the the original poster!

Don't say i did'nt tell you....

You need too start getting informed.

I know several people who have been following clinical trials/forums for the past 10 years. We have spent 100's of hours at the coalface looking for something new.

Guess what? In 10 years nothing of any note.

Xeljanz is mere hype. Janus kinase inhibitors don't solve the problem.

I am curious to read your thoughts on LDN:-)?
