Do you think having long hair just weighs it down and fall out easier?

My recent hair loss has had me thinking of any option of why it is falling out . People have suggested to cut my hair cause it was down to my waist and so thick . So today I went to shoulder lenth. already Ifeel alot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders . I just hope I made the right decision

Hi

The simple answer to this one is No. If you have alopecia areata your hair length will not determine whether it will stay or go. The condition sadly....decides that for you.

With regards to your new hairstyle - I'm absolutely sure you look fab and it probably will be easier to deal with if hairloss is occurring.

Hope this helps.

I had hair passed the middle of my back when my Alopecia started. I cut it up to above my shoulders, just so I didnt have to watch long hairs fall out of my head, and if it got to the point where I needed to shave, it would only be a little bit, not a lot. But Cutting it did nothing to slow down the hair falling out. The spots have gotten bigger and grown in numbers. I wish a haircut was the fix!!
People have suggested this to me to and I really want to, BUT my hair falls out nonstop and keeping it in a low bun saves me the agony of seeing it all day. I would love to be able to cut it and feel free but I know I would be covered in it constantly. Glad you feel some relief! Hugs.....
Lol Letcia, I thought that might help too, so been there, done that, doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. But at least there aren't as many long hairs to clog up the plug hole, the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine etc etc.
Oh the vacuum cleaner... I have been yelled at plenty of times for that one, I ALWAYS forget to empty after I clean my room...oops! :)
well I have notice about 80percent less hair falls out since I have cut my hair . I have reall thick hair that was so heavy that I do believe was making my hair fall out alot easier . You have to understand that I have been putting my hair in a bun or pony tail for the last three years right when I got out of the shower still wet . This is proven to cause hair loss cause of tieing it back in the same spot . I'm not saying this is the solution but I have noticeda signifigant diffrencebuti guess we will see what happens . It's in gods hands either way
