I am currently going through my second bout of Alopecia.
My hair is definitely not falling out as fast as last time, but it is still steadily falling out.
Do you think permanently dyeing my hair will make it fall out faster?
I feel like enjoying my hair while I still have enough of it! And i'd love to dye it red.
I dyed my hair last year and immediately after I experienced my first onset of alopecia. I always thought there was a link (my dermatologist said it was just a coincidence)
However, this time around I had done nothing and it still has fallen out again
What are your experiences with dying your hair and did it exacerbate the problem or make no difference?

Hi, I can only tell you my experience. I started coloring my hair after I developed AA, and I can tell you it never seemed to make mine fall out, my AA came and went when it wanted to. After coloring my hair, it felt thicker and was better than before I colored it, so I did it often, about every 5-6 weeks. Now that I've buzzed what was left of my hair, no more coloring for me. but if my hair grew back tomorrow you can bet I'd be enjoying it too. I loved it just after I colored it. So I say unless you were allergic, or sensitive to the dye, you shouldn't have a problem. Look at how many people do crazy colors on their hair and it never falls out. Good luck, and enjoy your hair!
Hi Laura
I have AA, diagnosed in October 2011. I had been colouring my hair blonde for years, my natural colour is mousey brown. I have been going to the same haidresser for 20 years. Though during the years the colours have changed eg different product lines. In August 2011 I had my hair coloured, I remember my haidresser saying she is using a new brand. I cannot say that this caused the alopecia, I have thought it might have. I often wonder if the product was the same as I used to have would I have alopecia. Who knows!!!!! Though there are other factors too that may have caused the alopecia. I coloured my hair blonde again in December 2011. My hair has been falling out now for a year, I probably have like 10% left and wearing a wig. That has been my experience with colour.
