Have you heard about the new treatment developed from glaucoma medication called Latisse? It is now available as a topical application (prescription) for eyelashes. I've heard great comments about how effective it can be to regow eyelashes. Also, I can highly recommend Holly Cosmetics from Louisville, KY for glue on eyelashes designed specifically for women with AA. Her site is hollycosmetics.com. She has AA & designed lashes that are natural, not too long or "theatrical." My brows have been tattooed for over 20 yrs., but they do fade. I've just bought the Brow Pen & She Lac (carried at Sephora). The Brow Pen is terrific & using She Lac over it holds the brows in place all day. Best of luck.

I have tried to research the Latisse as well a little bit. It is finally on ebay as well but still quite expensive.
Reallly check with a doctor first. I have read that it does change your iris colour permamently.
Special info below with BGDL products which are alopecia-supportive ....... but lashes first.

Lashes are easier with a few tips:

Be seated so you can rest your elbow on a table.
Have an adjustable magnifying mirror ( 5 or 6x is ideal) that you can tilt and raise/lower in height.

Sometimes the only lashes you need are the outside third....depends on the shape/depth of your own eyes.
Other people need a full length across. but the outer third is the most convincing.

It can be easier to apply a strip if you cut it into 2 halves or even thirds..put on a section at a time.

After you apply the glue to the strip, wave it around a bit or wait a few moments for it to be tacky ( remember rubber cement from school which is tackier if you let it go matte first?)..it will stick better. Be sure you lid is dry and clean before you start to help with adhesion.

BROWS:

Better than she-laq. The Bald Girls Do Lunch signature brow products are better and cost less than She-Laq. ($25 versus $30). We don't have to charge you tax and 100% of proceeds go to our nonprofit for alopecians. We will also ship to Europe, Australia and New Zealand at a reasonable cost.

Our BGDL matte sealer is not shiny which She-Laq is on some people and BGDL sealer has no odor. It will not sting either. Plus, all the proceeds support our nonprofit and not a conglomerate. Debbie Fuller, our lovely east coast Freedom Wig rep at Fuller-Hair.com uses our brow powder and sealer to touch up her brows which have a tattoo base. I use our brow powder and sealer over bare skin or foundation...either way it's oure magic. The BGDL online marketplace is still in development..so just send info to order to us directly: beauty@baldgirlsdolunch.org. Qualified retailers please inquire.

And if you opt for lashes only for the outer third, treat the inner lashline with a gel liner (I like Bobbi Brown brand) and dab it on the lid edge where lashes are normally growing from. It has thickness and staying power to make it appear there are little hairs coming out. I use brown, black or their cobalt blue...but avoid any of the gels with sparkle that close to your eye.

when I wear false eyelashes my eyes water and then the glue comes undone and then I look like a mess!
To be fully educated and see the FDA Briefing Documents on the topic of glaucoma meds ( bimatoprost opthalmic solution) for lash growth, see my blog here from December, 2008:

"Lumigan is a hot topic...but not for AA , yet"

Wel, i do miss my eyebrows & lashes a lot!!! I lost them wen i was 12. I hav almost forgot wat is the shape of my eyebrows.
I draw eyebrows with pencil & sometimes use fake eyebrows too. I can draw bow shaped eyebrows perfectly, after weeks of practice. I put on fake eyebrows well too. U just hav to observe the mirror carefully & start with the wider side (front side) of the brows & stick it a bit near to ur eyelids, then rest wil follow according to the shape. Same can be done with drawing them. Start with the front & then to the bak with semi circle flow.
I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes after taking Steriods to treat uclers.
I do my eyeliner and sometimes my shadow kinda dark. I really do miss my lashes alot too. I find with black eyeliner it's hard to tell there are no lashes. The eyeliner I use is very smudgey so does make a "hoochie" kinda line on your eyes. lol And it is waterproof so that really helps me as my eyes tear at even a slight wind now
this is the biggest thing for me. I am AU and i can deal with not having the head and body hair, but i REALLY wish i had eyebrows and eyelashes (oh and nose hair... who knew that was important!?!?) with my bad allergies, i am miserable during spring and live in HUUUGE bubble sunglasses, even when its getting dark. otherwise i get all kinds of stuff in my eyes.

I was thinking of trying these Blinkies - they say they are made for folks with NO eyelashes at all. and they dont seem expensive either. I already use Beauti-FULL eyebrow temporary tattoos - love them and im an expert in applying them.

thought of getting eyebrow tattoos (permanent) but theres always that fear that one day my hair will decide to grow back and i will have tattooed my eyebrows in a spot where they didnt normally grow... then what?
I'm new at this sight and I'm smiling comforted that others are going through the same things as I am. Accept for the obvious lack of head hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes, no one but we AUs understand what else comes with the lack of hair. I too suffer from allergies and sneeze all the time which I suspect is from lack of nose hair. And my eyes water 24/7 from the lack of eyelashes. So much so that I'm now getting permanent bags under my eyes from rubbing them all the time. Is sometimes embarrassing when I'm at a work meeting and my eyes keep watering. I guess its just from dust in the air or something like that. I hope we all grow our hair back someday! I miss just putting my hair back in a pony tail to get it off my face :(
Have you seen the SALE on http://w.blinkiesonline2.com It's a buy one get one free temporary tattoo eyebrows. Wow I think this is a GREAT deal and have purchased several to stock up. Only $4.99 for 8 sets of eyebrows. I think it's a steal.
I need to see good pictures of strip eyelashes-zoom photos-before I buy-because I like a very light and not dark base and not obvious black "dots' made by the knots. Even though I wear darkish eyeliner I don't like the dark line to be on the lash strip.

So I wear Ardell eyelashes-I buy them through Ballbeauty -they have quite a few options to choose from-at one time I ordered straight from the distributor-before the Internet existed but now I buy on line through Ball Beauty. I seem to do best with DUO eyelash glue-the Ardell glue doesn't work as well for getting it off easily-take the old strip of glue off at night, don't wait until the next morning-it's more picky by then.

The idea of starting off putting them on in sections is a brialliant one-never thought of that-but would certainly help in the time when you are learning the manual dexteriy skills. Shortening in both width of strip and length of the lashes (called feathering) is also not too too hard if you have a pair of really sharp scissors.
