Am wondering what people's thoughts are on head tattoos? I'm a 29 year old hairdresser who has been bald for 17 years and have wanted a tattoo on my head for about 10 of those years! Have you done it? Do you know others who have? Do you have pictures? Big tattoo? Little? Symetrical? On the tattoo pain scale, how painful are we talking? Is this tacky? I need advice and not alot (or any) people around me are bald...very unhelpful LOL :)

I've heard the head is painful. Dotty here on ALopecia World has head tattoos and she is on my friends list - she might be able to help! I'd like to get a little tattoo on my head but haven't had the courage.
I have also been thinking about a head tattoo to go along with the one on my neck. But the pain factor does have me a bit worried. The neck wasnt bad. I got some temp tattoos to play with the idea of what I want for now.
Yeah, Dotty is the one to holler at. If you want some funny ideas for head tats, here ya go:

1)If you can read this, my wig slipped off
2)Place wig here
3)Sunday:Smooth/Monday:Blonde/Tuesday:Redhead/Wednesday:Anything Goes/Thursday:Brunette/Friday:Black/Saturday:Smooth
4)Body by Nature, Hair By China
5)I'm not fake, only my hair is
6)Blondes may have more fun, but Smoothies do it better
I think today my tattoo would say "Don't Ask!"
Check out Dotty Jenkins's page on AW -- she has the most awesome tattoos on her head!! I'm still considering it myself...I'm thinking a barcode at the base of my head just for the shock factor...LOL
I've been thinking of this too. First I thought of a bull charging out of the back of my head, then I thought of a Phoenix, that would be pretty with the wings going around the sides of my head but a lot of work and pain. I got my eyebrows done, that was a must. I get mixed remarks when I ask people so I'm a little hesitant too. What design were you thinking of?
Ha ha ha. The reason I haven't done it yet is that I haven't settled on a design. I'd love to something completely ridiculous...but don't wanna regret it later!! I know that I want it kind of behind my right ear. Something not too big. And somthing more fluid than not (if that makes any sense!) Just met someone that does Henna, so am going to get her to do that on my head next week to try out this whole idea. Can hardly wait.
I have been thinking the same thing....getting a tatoo on my head over the right ear. Have not decided on design yet. I don't know why but I think the tatoo will help me become more accepting of my alopecia.
Hi Petra I think it's because by having the tattoo in such a visible place you are making a bold statement, not just to yourself but others.
Plus the tattoo is a choice.
Yes indeed
Tats are painful, regardless, but on the head, you are so close to the nerve centre that the feeling will be that much more intense, depending on your pain threshold. Some people might sleep through it, others may not sleep for weeks. In my opinion, the number one consideration about getting a tat on your head, is that its permanent; in other words, you can never hide it. While all tats are permanent, ones your back or sleeve or legs, can be covered; with your head, much less so. Once in ink, its there to stay, so whatever your choice, you have to be really, really sure about it.
