I read that the body is actually attacking the pigment in the hair follicle. That is why it comes in white, but usually changes to normal hair color.
According to my derm, it comes back white then falls out and grows as normal pigment hair, but the white hair is a good sign!
All of my regrowth has been white. If it has to fall out to let pigmented hair grow again, all my regrowth would have been for naught. It's been growing since the first spot fell out. Two years growth in the first affected places.
I've had regrowth in order of the fallout so it is now longest and most full where I first experienced the loss. To my shoulders and very full of body and curl. Nice actually. The loss expanded at the edges of fallout and never stopped spreading until it took everything. It's been exactly two years now and I've been keeping all that has regrown and continuing to lose all the dark hair.
The white hair is the victor now, having lost 90% but having regrown my complete right side, back, crown to a length to actually work with now. It's all dyed now and I try to keep up with it.
This is my first experience with the dreaded disease and it's never stopped since it started but also grew back as soon as it fell but in pure white.
Started at age 51.
