I am Not My Hair!
Since having my hair shaved, I am always anticipating the next comment about my hair. A woman I know commented she didn't recognize me and went on to say, "You look soooo pretty!" A man I know who heard the comment said, "I bet you were wondering, "Who is that boy?" I smiled and kindly replied, "Noooo, not a boy, a beauty!" I tell ya, if Alopecia is teaching me anything, it's teaching me I am not my hair and have thick skin because a lot of people think I am my hair.
I don't consider myself bald, I'm just taller than my hair.

Amen to that. It took me such a long time to recognize that as well. Yes, men do have it a bit easier than women, but I still had issues with losing my hair. I remember when my friends first noticed that bald patch and the ribbing that they gave me. Years of embarrassment followed with hiding and thousands of dollars spent on drugs that lost their effectiveness over time and perhaps contributed to other problems. But a few days ago, I capitulated and just shaved my head. There is such a tremendous sense of relief in just saying FU to hair loss. It wanted my hair - fine, take it, kiss my a** and take those voices of self-doubt back to h*ll. I'm free from worrying about it now.
