i know everyone has their own preference as far as wigs go. I am just so confused at this point as I would like something more stable, secure and life worthy, plus I have a small head. I currently have a raquel welch hot sauce in an awesome color. but it feels too big and bunches in the back and i hate wearing it for long periods of time. there is too much hair on it and i'm always adjusting it. can anyone give me suggestions on vacuum wigs? it's an option for me, but i'm so confused as to who to go with. mostly it's the heat..i hate overheating in the wig. plus spending $4,000 or so for a wig that lasts only 3-5 years isn't so appealing. i guess i'd probably spend that much in cheaper wigs each year. HELP!! anyone?? thanks in advance! Jill

I really like rene of paris wigs. Not expensive and I find as this becomes a part of my life I like the daily options. :) I don't wear the same one all the time (or a wig for that matter, lots of scarfs) So, I buy more because they don't cost as much and I pick them out like I pick out my clothes for the day. I'm this close to buying a red one. ha-ha. Hey why not. Good luck and have fun!
your welcome love, good luck!
Jill, It sounds like you buy your wigs on-line, so I don't know if you have a good wig store were you live or someone who is comfortable working with wigs. If so, maybe they can adjust your wig to make it smaller and thin it out. I have had to do this with a couple of the wigs that I have bought. I think the human hair wigs usually are a little thicker and need some thinning.
Hi Jill

It is difficult to sift through all the information available on hairpieces to work out which is going to work best for you. When I was looking with my daughter we wrote a list of the things we wanted from a hairpiece. Then we went out and investigated, eventually finding a the wig that ticked the most boxes for us. We decided on a Freedom vacuum wig and it has worked well for my daughter for the last 7 years.

Talk to those that wear the Freedom Wig here - pop into the following group and read through the information there 'alopecians who have a freedom wig! (or are getting one)'.

I noticed that you felt that 3-5 years was not an adequate amount of time for a hairpiece to last. I look after people in NZ that wear the Freedom hairpiece and I have people that wear their hairpieces out in 1year to 18 months I have others that have their hairpiece last 4-9 years with no problems. It's all dependent on your lifestyle, needs etc. The price charged does not indicate how long a hairpiece will last - it just indicates what it costs to make such a lovely piece of equipment. How long it lasts is mostly up to the wearer.

Good luck with your investigations, if I can be of any help feel free to pop in and say hi.

Also, look into hair bonding. I had a system that was made from a mold of my head, and it is pretty awesome and stays on all the time.
Hey Jill, I bite the bullet and went with a vaccum wig, just like you I wanted comfortabiity and I also wanted something that look good and that I can wear it all the time, but take it off whenever I wanted. Before my vaccum wig, I wore a bonded wig that I never took off, only when I went to the shop which was every 6 weeks. Towards the end of my contract I learned to put it on and off myself, glue & tape, YUCK!! Vaccum Wig is the way to go - yes expensive but worth every penny, I've had mine since February. Let me know if I can be of further help.
Hi Jill

I can help you with that confusion. Freedom Wigs are made in New Zealand by the Company 'Freedom Wigs". If you live in New Zealand you would deal directly with the manufacturer, but if you live in another part of the world you would deal with an Independent Agent which Freedom supplies their hairpieces to. An Independent Agent is as the name suggests :) - independent of Freedom NZ. They run their own businesses and work within the consumer laws etc. of the country they are in. Freedom has always felt this is the best option for those outside of NZ that require a Freedom Hairpiece as the IA is able to look after their clients far more closely and with the care required to order a Freedom hairpiece. When you go to see an Independent Agent and buy a Freedom Hairpiece you are buying your hairpiece from your Independent Agent - not from Freedom NZ - even though all Freedom hairpieces are made in New Zealand as per the instructions given by the IA's around the world. (Sort of like when you go to the Doctor - the doctor understands your needs and prescribes the medications you may require - you wouldn't normally go to the pharmaceutical company to be diagnosed - Freedom is like the Pharmaceutical Company and the IA is like the doctor) The IA orders your hairpiece from Freedom as per your instructions, then Freedom deals with your IA. I really hope I am making sense here lol.

Freedom has 23 Independent Agents around the world. New Life Hair, Fuller Hair, My Image and Hair Source Inc.are currently the IA's for Freedom's latest hairpiece in the USA; these ladies are well trained and fully supported by Freedom New Zealand. With them you are able to request any of the three different cap types (Breathable Silicone, Glued Silicone or fiberglass). When you decide to meet with one of the Freedom IA's have a chat about what the differences are.

PKS is also an Independent Agent but because of a contractual agreement they work with a choice of two different cap types (Glued Silicone and Fiberglass). PKS prefer to rebrand the Freedom Product, if you are buying a Vacuum Hairpiece from PKS and want the Freedom Product please ask them as I believe they sell other types of products which may cause confusion.

I hope that helps clear up any confusion.

If you would like to ask me any further questions just pop into my page. You also might like to see my daughter wearing her Freedom hairpieces - they are on my page as well.

There's nothing Yuck about my hair system. It always smells fresh and FYI water and shampoo do get under it when you wash it.
For only $141, I don't mind adjusting my Raquel Welch. The price lets me change styles every year or less, take it off easily when I get home (107 degrees out today), and avoid the sweating.
Hi

You know I think everybody chooses the hairpiece that suits their lifestyle, budget, and needs. I believe everybody works out what their own needs are and they can be very different from one person to the next. Many beautiful woman here don't bother with any type of haircovering and they have my total support. I've had a wee looksee at your photo's tallgirl and you look lovely. Dominique I'm not sure what your new hair looks like but I'm sure it looks great and makes you feel wonderful.

I feel the information that is available to people should be truthful and realistic, nobodies choice should be poo pooed as that can become a very personal affront which we all don't really need. We are in this together and hair choice should never be an issue of contention. I particular dislike when people make comments about certain types of hairpieces. The truth is all that is required, but I understand everyones perception will be different, so I always try and be thoughtful of other people's choices. For all those that wear hair and have strong opinions about what works and what doesn't - always remember you are talking with another alopecian with feelings and needs similar to your own. Talk in positives about what you like, the comparisons are always a little misleading (I feel). If you love your choice sing it to the high heavens but don't run down somebody elses in the meantime as that makes everyone uncomfortable.

Thanks Rose Marie, but don't worry I wasn't offended. I was just pointing out that I don't find my bonded on hair system to be "yucky" at all, and it has truly been a Godsend to me. I simply wanted other alopecians to know that this is yet another viable option that may be just the thing for some of us.
