I was wondering how many have had relapses while treating with squaric acid or DCPC.  I was into my 5th month of treatment when for no reason all of the new regrowth slowly began to fall out.  Now I am back to almost bald.  Is it worth continuing at this point?

Hi Starshine, sorry about the falling. My daughter is just starting DCPC treatment and we don't know how it works yet. Thanks for raising the question, I hope to learn more about this treatment. Best regards.

I tried it 10 years ago I was happy to see some hair growth but the hair that was growing wasn't strong ,they were weak and when the doctor did the pulling test he pulled out a bunch from my head that's when I knew that no matter what there was no cure for this disease and I was once again left with my hopes all shattered.
I lost hope for cure for some years ago as well cheers
Hi, I've never used dcpc before or any other treatments other than topical cream but I wanted to share my methods hoping it will help. I've lost about 50% of my hair in spotted areas about 3 years ago and after a year of alopecia everything grew back. I still get occasional spots hear and there but very small and it seems to grow back slowly. I do however have a head full of hair now. So not sure what exactly caused the regrowth in hair but here are a few things that I felt "might" have been the "cure". I started changing my lifestyle completely... getting enough sleep everyday and exercising daily. I wouldn't say I ate healthy so eating habits may have not have much to do with it. I would stay away from antidepressants because I feel like when your off of them they cause more anxiety and stress than they help with. Most importantly I cut out everything that was stressing me out or causing me to feel negative. At the time I had a gf that I would fight with a lot and I cut her out of my life too. I focused on loVing myself and surrounding myself with positive energy and positivity. I believed my hair would grow back and I would think positive all the time. After all this is an immune system error so I believe the healing process starts from within. Excercise, being happy, and lifestyle changes may have been the key for me. Alopecia is depressing but being depressed for me only made me lose more hair. I hope this helps.
Thanks Kevin. I agree stress is a major factor for some people and does seem to be for me also. It is just so hard to eliminate it completely. I hope your hair remains.

Is relapse from squaric acid or DCPC common?
Yes.

Eventually you either stop due to the side effects or the risible regrowth ....falls out.

I tried this with a number of people at my local hospital in 2005. I wanted to try one treatment lol against AU.

It's not worth the time, pain or emotional input.

Thanks Dom, I am beginning to come to that conclusion. Are you a doctor?

check out SCD Leaky Gut Syndrome it all starts in the gut the brain of our bodies!! :)

I've been watching a lot of youtube videos about that, it seems to be the source of many conditions...the priblem is to find a effective cure ;)
Hi
My son is 9 and he has lost his hair several times since age 2 and the treatment we have been doing is solumedrol in a hospital. It is a dose of cortisone for three days according to his weight and they follow the heart and urine etc during treatment . It always grew back but this time as soon as it was grown, after a hole year of waiting it is starting to fall back. I definitely associate the falling to stress. After a big flue he is starting to loose all his hair again.
henhas now done this solumedrol treatment 7 times the last couple of years.
We will probably do it again in three months since it can not be done frequently but it is really difficult for my son this time. He was so hopeful when the hair grew back and suddenly everything is as before...
Hi Joana. I feel the same way, when it falls after going through so much, it is unbearable. My heart goes out to you and your son and everyone with this crap disease.

I've never heard of DCPC treatments, so I looked it up; from what I can see, I agree with those above, it doesn't seem to be worth the time, trouble, or discomfort for something that is most likely temporary.

My hair comes and goes; right now, it is gone, but growing back. I am not stressed (retired 10 years ago), I eat healthy, and I exercise, but the cycle continues (this is my 3rd bout). I was thinking this morning maybe I'm too healthy, I haven't been sick in years, and my immune system needs something to do. This time around I was very pro-active, seeing the doctor regularly and keeping up with steroid shots on the stubborn areas, yet my hair still fell out (this is the worst it has ever been). I have come to believe that for me, it is cyclical and there is nothing I can do about it; this is my new "normal". I am discontinuing the steroid shots and seeing how things go. BTW, I tried plaquenil also; didn't think it worked and I didn't like how I felt while on it. For me, since I am so active, how I feel is more important than how I look.
