Is this really a lace front wig?

I'm not clear on the whole "lace front wig" deal. I've been wearing mostly run-of-the-mill wigs from Raquel W. and Paula Young. I just bought a Revlon Emotion wig which said it was lace front. It had a section of very stiff, material along the front with a sharp zig-zag cut. (Not what I would call "lace"!) I called the seller and he said it should have come with instructions about cutting down that piece closer to the hairline. There were not any instructions. I did cut it a bit more but it still pokes me in the forehead and feel very scratchy. Is that normal? It looks OK but isn't comfortable. If I used tape would that make it less scratchy? Is this even a "real" lace front wig?

The concept of a lace front is that the uneven front line is supposed to be more natural so you can wear it off your face. Thea (baldgirlsdolunch.org) gave a great explanation on how to make them more comfortable. Maybe you can find it in her recent activity.

Me, too! I bought one for about $250 after tax when I was vacationing in Las Vegas (because they have so many shops, I thought I should go looking!). It wasn't too scratchy until they cut it. Now it's so uncomfortable!!! that I don't even want to wear it. I've tried tape, but it irritates my skin (like wearing a bandaid or med tape every day). I actually was so frustrated that I tried to put hot glue on the edge so I could stand to wear it. I haven't worn it very long afterward. I pulled it off where the part is so no one can see it. How were your Paula Young wigs?? I've been shopping there tonight online. Have you had one of the WhisperLite® fiber wigs? Their colors are different than anything I've had. I'm debating buying more hats!

What I wound up doing was getting some clear silicone caulk in a squeeze tube from Home Depot & put that along the edge. It worked pretty well. I liked the variety of the Paula Young wigs and the fact that they were relatively inexpensive meant that I could take a chance on something a bit different.
