So. I'm curious. Did most people always have thin, fine hair their whole lives and then they started to have hair loss or did many people have thick and profuse hair that eventually developed hair loss?
For me, I have always had very fine, thin hair that was made fun of even in childhood and throughout my life and then eventually I developed Areata and/or Androgenic baldness that was too thin to ignore. What are other people's experiences? Thanks to all who share.

Hi,
My hair had always been thin, but after the 1st time with AA it thickened heaps with the regrowth but i thought that was the the injections after about a year it thinned out then got aa again same hair thinking on regrowth and stayed that way till i i started losing it again thanks to by 3rd dose of AA so, hope that helps
Wow. I ran like crazy from treatments because I did hear that they didn't really stick. Plus I take cortisone injections on other parts of my body for other things and the body is only supposed to have so much of that stuff injected. I thought that if I had growth like that and then lost it that it would be upsetting. Thanks for sharing.
My daughters hair was very long, plenty of it, blonde and curly. So, no in her case she didn't always have thin hair. :)
Very interesting. So then when she began to thin, was it obvious right away or did it happen gradually? My daughter, who is almost 11, has one small spot slightly larger than a pencil eraser that is bald. It is bothersome to her, but she LOVES wigs. She has always had it and sometimes people do notice and poke fun.
Hi
It took about 6 months for her to loose all her hair when she was 12 years old. She is now 21 and has been wearing vacuum wigs from that time. She has also grown her hair back 4 times and lost it again 5 times. Sigh....alopecia - sooo frustrating.

Mine has always been very fine. Even as a kid, I had the smallest ponytail. I have AGA.
I know all about that tiny pony tail! I did like someone below did and permed it curly to make it appear more full but in my teens I discovered that if you dye it, it roughens the cuticle and helps it look a little fuller. Incidentally right before I started wearing wigs my color was au naturale and I tried the dying thing again. It worked a little but bald spots are bald spots... there is only so much you can do. :0) Thanks for your reply. Nice to see you.
Mine was super thick and silky. I cut and died it all the time growing up. Would give anything for those long straight, silky and jet black locks now!
Wow! I'm sure it was quite the adjustment for you then after having so much hair before. Thanks for your reply.
Prior to Alopecia Areata, I had thick curly hair and I would always perm it to get the silky straight look. I wish I would have stayed a way from the chemicals.
So you think the chemicals attributed to it? That is an interesting thought, as above I mention my own pretty extensive use of chemicals to try to plump mine. When I really, really started balding, though, I had been chemical free for 5 years or so and it just kept going anyway... :0( Thanks for your reply
I had a similar journey with perms and colors to plump. My Grandfather had extremely fine, thin hair and he told me once that it was because we were Danish (he was a Danish immigrant). Now I don't really know this, but somehow I'm thinking the whole country of Denmark does not have fine, thin hair. Maybe I'm wrong. But, my Father and my Grandmother also have balding issues but Grandma is 94. I think hers might be age/hormone related. So yours is Areata then? Are they small patches or big patches or does it vary?
