Hello,
I am 46 and for the past 3 months I have been loosing my hair on clumps with severe itching, pain and little flaking. At time of washing I loose between 400-600 hairs. The days between will be from 150-200. I used to have very thick hair. Dermatologist, endocrinologist and gastroenterologist checked my thyroid, liver, pancreas, etc. - I passed full physical with perfect results. I am taking vitamins and herbal supplements for hormones regulations; my eating habits are on the health side and exercise 3-4 times a week. I am not sure if anyone experienced the same or my symptoms are not common for alopecia. But if someone did experience something like that would you, please, share with me?
Thank you!

I had suffered from severe scalp burning, itching, sensitivity, etc... for 7 months and MANY doctors before one was brave enough to diagnose me. I guess I have Chronic Telogen Effluvium, Trichodynia and was just diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis of the scalp and face. My hair loss has gotten a little better but the seb derm is very bad. It has made me contemplate suicide too much and I have told my doctors about my feelings. I was prescribed a 2% Ketoconazole shampoo but am scared to use it out of fear of more hair loss or irritation. I just got this seb derm diagnosis this week and have been using Head and Shoulders for the past 3 days. First day it felt OK, now it is back to the severe itching, flaking, etc... It feels like something is eating at my scalp. I too passed all physicals, labs, tests with nothing too abnormal. I am getting more labs done tomorrow. I have been anorexic/bulimic for 18 years as well. I have NEVER had hair or skin issues before 7 months ago when I literally woke up with a sensitive scalp. I am at my wits end and talk to the doctors almost daily so that I don't take my life. My life was going great before all this and it just keeps getting worse. I will keep you posted and keep you in my prayers!
Domeboro?
I just want to say, I know exactly what you are going through. Last spring I started losing lots of hair, I didn't define it as clumps, but I started counting and saving them (so I could prove to doctors that I wasn't making it all up) and I was losing about 500 to 600 a day as well. I used to shower in the dark, thinking I could shield myself from seeing all that hair in my hands, but that didn't work as I still just HAD to see it...kind of like a horrific car accident, you don't want to look but somehow are compelled too.
Sounds like you are doing all the things you have within your power to help. Just know that we all understand and it will get better! Mine has started to slow down and once I came to an acceptance it also got better.
And to Julie - I have used Ketaconazole off and on for years, don't be scared to use it. I get the itchy, burning and sensitivity as well and the Ketaconazole really has helped with that. I haven't had more hair loss because of it either. :-)
Hi Julie. Same here. I am up right now because I can't stop crying and my husband just said to me, "can't you stop this crying" and I got so upset. My hair is coming out literally in clumps. If I take a comb down a thin section, at least 10-20 hairs come out. It is impossible for me to count. I have spent the last 7 years going to every dr known to man and still no real answers. I have gone off all meds except Armour for my thyroid and it continues to get worse. I also have severe pain in my scalp. I have psoriatic arthritis too and am in pain 24-7. It feels like more than I can take right now. I WOULD NEVER take my life because I know that would only mean more hell, the forever kind but this is misery. I ask God to let it all for all out if it's going to and stop torturing me, but this continues. I keep praying for something to give. I have never heard of this kind of hairloss but I am learning that I am not alone. So sorry but know that you are not alone.
HI , are stories are so similar i actually break out in hives before washing because i lose chunks of hair.i no longer am able to wear my hair down because of the extreme shedding.and the pain is horrible.
