I just started wearing wigs and found out that I have a large head - 23 inches. All the wigs that are on display in the salon that I go to are for average and petite heads. My consultant does not have large wigs and does not think her companies have large wigs. When you go to the websites and order a wig, your wig style choices go from 300 to choose from to 10 to choose from when you say you need a large cap and you cannot try it on if you want/need to return it. I had a wig custom made with human hair - $1,000. The hair is not soft at all, looks like it needs some massive conditioning, is too big (better than too small) and has to be held on with clips and tape. The cap I wear under it gives me a massive headache. Imagine, if you have a large head, the caps are like vices! Does anyone have suggestions about large wig/cap sizes? Yes, I still have hair, but it is very, very thin - the clips have pulled the hair out while trying to hold the wig on.

Some people with hair use a water soluble glue called "It Stays"-it is also used for clothes and often found where clothes for seniors are sold. It can be applied to your own hair, instead of tape, and then the wig cap sticks to your hair. Many people can't use the wig clips on their hair-too harsh. It stays is not a problem to get out of your own bio hair-that is why it is so well liked by some wig wearers-not like the adhesives sold for lace wigs yada yada.

Don't give up on the $1,000 wig-it probably is Asian hair-European hair would have cost about double that price. Condition it with a good conditioner-some recommend Nutrogena Triple Hair Mask, and others suggest Joico Moisture Recovery Balm. Also, making that big cap smaller is not too difficult. If you want to chat about that further send me a private message.

About large wig caps-some members of wigsupport have posted that they clip some areas of the perimeter and also place it on a Styrofoam head while wet, in order to stretch it.
Look into using Ghost Bond adhesive you can order it online.
Thanks, girls. Something more for me to look in to. I will try anything!
Paula Young carries 28 large size wigs at a reasonable price. Their website: http://www.paulayoung.com/category/wigs/large+wigs.do?sortby=priceA...
I order custom wigs through a chinese website and you can send in your measurements. They are under $500. If you are going to wear wigs you may want to cut your hair very short and tape them on. Message me and I will send you the site.
I have a larger than average head too and I know what you mean about putting the option of large wigs into online wig stores and seeing your choices go from 100s to 10s... most of which seem to be quite ugly LOL!

If you wear a stocking wig cap and find that too tight, you can make your own one that fits you and will be more comfy. PM me if you want instructions and I will send them to you.

Depending on the wig I am wearing, if I wear a stocking wig cap I tape just the front of it (the stocking wig cap) to my skin so that it holds and won't budge. Then instead of clipping the wig clips/combs to my bio hair, I clip them to the edges of the stocking wig cap. It's surprising how secure and rigid this method can be. You can also use bobby pins to secure the wig to the stocking wig cap. It takes a bit of experimenting at home to find the method/combination that works and feels totally secure. The other thing is that you want it to be something that is easy and doesn't stress you out - or that's how I feel... I don't want to spend too long trying to get the wig comfortable as it's just not sustainable in the long term.
Wendy, I usually buy inexpensive synthetic wigs in average sizes, and they are always a little too small. I sew toupee clips in the front to keep in close to my natural hairline. My real hair usually shows through on the sides, so I wear a color as close as possible to my own. I also buy wigs that are at last shoulder length, because it disguises the fact that the cap is too short in the back.

Good luck, whatever you decide. I know from experience that it can be difficult to find the find the right wig.
