Before the most recent episode of alopecia, I hadn't had an outbreak in 12 years. I stated using Mirena last October, and six months later I started developing alopecia again. I did some research and found out lots of other women have experienced hair loss while on Mirena. Has anyone else here had this experience? Or is this purely coincidental?

Again I can relate, I had never taken birth control up until about 2 months before my first experience with AA. I wasn't on it long because it was too problematic for me. I was on Nuvaring and have read similar stories about hair loss. It could very well be a coincidence but it also messed up my cycle severely even 6 months later. It just kind of makes you wonder. I hope someone can get to the bottom of this!
My AU happened 6 months after I got off the Nuvaring. I really think more research needs to be done in regards to this stuff. I wish doctors would stop ignoring patients!

Hi Katelyn,
Did you have any success with regrowth?

I have been on depo for over 12 years off and on and for the last 5 years I have been dealing with AA. For the last year I have had alopecia totalis, I lost all body hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. I was told by my doctor that alot of people are losing hair because of the Hormones in the birth control. I am switching to an IUD that has none or close to no hormones in them. I'll keep you posted on how everything is going.

Hi Shanique,

Did you have any success with regrowth?

Omg yes, so all my body hair including eyebrows and lashes habe grew back. Unfortunately I sometimes see hair on my head then I don't. I did switch to the IUD but had to get it removed because it was stuck. I'm now back doing my Tumeric treatments and hopefully it works again.
