In May this year I noticed my first small patch on the right side of my head. I didn't take any notice of it at first as it was quite small and un-assuming. A few days later I went to the barbers to get my hair cut and that's when my life hit the fan. The barber noticed a large patch on the top of my head, right in the center. My hair which is quite short anyway was covering it so I never noticed it. He also noticed two patches on the back of my head, somewhere I never checked to look.

Over the past two months I have had increased hair loss. Five large spots on the back of my head which fused together to create one large one. Three on the top of my head and various smaller one's on either side of my head. This is devastating as a 25yr old male. One of my eyebrows has thinned quite a bit also.

I have being to my doctor three times now and he was given me different ointments each time and I don't think any of them are working.

In the past week or so though I have noticed that on the patches on the top of my head, white hair is growing in and its longer than the rest of my hair ( which I keep rather short now ). There is white hair also growing on my eyebrows.

Is this a good sign or what? Do I leave it grow, or shave it in hopes it will grow back my natural hair colour? I have only had these patches for three months now, but could it be possible that its getting better?

I went through a bad break - up in March and I think maybe the stress from that triggered this.

This is my first bout of AA, and in all honesty I never even heard about it until I was diagnosed with it.

Sorry for my rambling :)

Kieran,> Hi! I've had AA and it then turned to AU for many years now...(I haven't counted) But I had lost all of my auburn brown hair. I did have a little patch along side of my ear that was white. Now since I've lost all my hair, the hair is coming in white instead of the color before I had AA
I've been married for 39 years now and my husband and I have gone through some rough times. I do think STRESS does have something to do with the hair falling out.
I've also notice that sometimes I do lose hair when combing my hair but its very minor though.
The hair is coming back in but its very slow process.
I have heard that sometimes people will have white hair and then it turns back to the original colour
I hope this will help you. Best of luck and would love to hear from you! Bye
Deborah

My doctor told me that all the regrowth starts out white then changes to your regular hair color. I don't know how long it takes to turn back to the normal color though. I was just diagnosed, so I'm still knew to all of this too.
