First I want to say that I am SO glad I found AP!!! I cannot say that enough! Finally......people who know what it's like! Gosh, this feels great!
Anyways....
I've dealt with A/A for over 10yrs & I was doing well with it. I had a full head of thick curly hair, during my last pregnancy. For the first time in 10yrs I had hair! But, of course, it wasn't meant to be!
My daughter was born in May & now, the glaring bald spots are back with a vengance!
I swallowed my "pride" & purchased a wig over the weekend, because I had to go & read to my son's preschool class & I didn't want to embarass him in front of his friends. Also, my husband's company is having their Christmas party, tomorrow night, & again, I didn't want to embarass him in front of his colleagues. Not that he cares, he's so very supportive.
The hair loss has gotten so bad, in the past 2 mos. I'm sick & tired of cleaning out the drain & special cover I have, in the shower. It's depressing to see how much hair comes out in just one shower session........UNREAL! And, I'm tired of waking up with a hair pillow & finding hair everywhere.
So, I'm going to take the next big step & shave what is left off!
My husband took this afternoon off & is going to shave it for me. Then, he's going to geth is head shaved!
I'm nervous, but it has to be done!
This will be the first time I've ever shaved it. Before, I was trying to hold on to what few strands I had, but I'm tired of doing that!
I look at the pictures of all of you, here, & I am green with envy, just in awe of the strength & courage each of you show!
I do have a question, though.
What's the best way to start with the shaving?
My hair is about chin length, so I'm thinking I need to cut it first, then shave it.
I don't want to go to a salon & have it done, because I don't feel like dealing with being in the hot seat with questions. I want this to be something my husband & I can share.
So, how do you start?
I'm going to need lots of encouragement, to get through this!

Oh gosh girl I so know where you are coming from! I shaved when AU came back almost 5 yrs ago. Once was enough of watching all the hair and grabbing clumps! So I said screw it this last time- I was gonna do it. For me, I had long hair, I just cut it all as close to my scalp as I could, while worrying I might get too close LOL. Then I took a shower and just used a regular disposable razor. Some people have said they used shaving cream or such. I just used shampoo and then shaved it until it was all nice and smooth. That way I could do it when no one was watching or around and feel more comfortable about the decision. It was a bit scary at first, a change ya know. But it was the best thing I ever did! This way I had a choice. And this way is perfect for you and your hubby, he can help all he wants. Hope this helps :)
The best way to start is to use the scissors to cut off the majority of the length so that if you use clippers, it doesn't pull and get tangled up. Then use the clippers to get as close to your scalp as possible without causing irritation. Finally, when you're in the shower washing off the stray hairs, use a really good razor (I like the venus Radiance or the Gillette Fusion Power) to make your head super silky smooth!

Your husband needs this experience as much as you, if not for the comfort aspect then for himself then just to be there to comfort you as you take this huge step. My fiance and I just went through this ourselves a couple of weeks ago. It has taken a moment for him to adjust to my bald head, but he would rather have me bald and happy than have a head full of hair and be absolutely miserable. It's a testament to how much he loves me that he would be the one to not only make the suggestion that I cut my hair off, but actually be the one to do the cutting!

Congratulations on taking such a big step -- and if you feel up to it, please show pictures of the finished look.

You are beautiful!!!
