Hello again Leesha
I used to have the same type of tenderness any time i would change the direction of my hair (like parting it in a different place). I don't know of anything that helps, sorry. Maybe someone else does. I have female pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) which basically means to me that my hair is falling out like an old man. Anyway, a year or so ago, i got fed up with all the pain and cut my hair off to about 1/2 inch long. For those who don't understand or accept, i suppose i don't look very good. But that tenderness is gone, and that's all i wanted. I might let my very sparse hair grow to about an inch or so, and then i shave it all up again. A friend of mine gave me my motto: it is what it is. I find that the more i pretend it doesn't matter to me, the less people seem to react, and the more i start to believe it myself that it doesn't matter. I wear hats if i'm out in the sun. Otherwise, i am what i am :) It might be a little easier on me because i'm older. I wish you luck finding an answer to the tenderness. The only answer i have is cut it all off :)
Yeah, I get the same thing. I had my hair up last night and it really hurt in the area of the most recent spot. I'm assuming it means I'm about to loose a bit more from that area. :-/
I had diffused AA before and my entire scalp hurt all the time. I was miserable.
Hi, I experience the same thing. Best way to describe it is the feeling when you've had a tight ponytail all day and then release it. the scalp hurts. I've had this since I was a kid and I know a lot of non-alopecia friends who experience the same thing. Accordsing to one of them (might not be a reliable source) its the folicle that are affected or direction of hair in the follicle changed.
I've noticed an increase of this since I got alopecia and I can connect it (or so I imagine) to when I'm about to lose a lot of hair. It seems to affect those areas the most.
I've no idea how to solve this unfortunatly but i'm about one day from shaving my head :P
Probably not. I'm shaving because my hair looks really bad, I'll feel more confident with a shaved head than with spots and thin hair.
If you wear something tight like a beanie during the day I've noticed that it gets worse than if you just wear your hair free. Unfortunatly I don't feel comfortable with my hair uncovered....thats why I feel like shaving.
When's the wedding? :)
I have 10 days to go! Hoping for no more spots until afterwards, haha.
Hi Leesha,
I've been complaining to my docs about scalp pain/discomfort/burning sensation for 6 years now. Originally, I was told I probably have AA but maybe not. This week I had a biopsy and was told it almost certainly is AA. I'm just waiting for the results to confirm. I've had a few times throughout the years that the pain went away. Cortisone injections helped it go away for a few months but did not regrow hair. At the suggestion of one of my docs, I also tried an anti-dandruff shampoo. It helped for a month or two but then the feeling came back. If you try anything or hear of anything that helps this, please post it. In my case, I don't know that shaving off my hair would relieve that feeling, since it seems to be right in my scalp - but it is definitely worse when my hair moves. (I too have cut my hair quite short.)
