New treatment must be just around the corner?

With new drugs developed recently for other autoimmune diseases such as RA and psoriasis (though suppressing the immune system is dangerous in and of itself, I know) shouldn't this move them closer to an effective treatment for alopecia?

I just read a study by Dr Petukhova from Columbia University, with a recent study titled "Genome-wide association study in alopecia areata implicates both innate and adaptive immunity" (2010). Try looking it up through the Nature publication or try this link.

Hi Laura,
I tried to watch the article although it won't load.What did the article say?
I went to my doctor last week and I've been tested to Ceoliac disease (which is one of the gene's expressed with Alopecia) and so far I have been confirmed positive...I have to go for a Gastroscopy to fully confirm the diagnosis. Iam hoping that with the change in diet, this will bring back my hair!!! Woo Hoo I say!!!

Yeah that is a temperamental link. The video states that recent genetic research has found that its not so closely related to psoriasis and vitiiigo as once thought...instead alopecia is more genetically similar to Type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and (yes) Celiac Disease. Hope this research moves forward towards a cure!

There use to be a lady on here that thought that the diet for Celiac's was helping her with growth so, good luck.

Susan disappeared from this site several months ago. She was the one with the huge diet and advice. Now all that's left of her are the red ribbon gifts she sent...and her now-black-typed name is unclickable to trace her. Vanished! Like Angela!
