Hello Good People :)

I don't know what's happening here. I'm 53 and had AU for about 30 years now.  The other day while cleaning my scalp, my daughter noticed that the back of my head and on the sides she says I have more black hairs than she can count.  About 6 months ago I was looking at my scalp and only noticed the same long single hair on the top of my head, hadn't been any different.

Today I took a mirror and looked and lo and behold! It looks like my hair is growing back!  Has anyone here ever had spontaneous remission of AU?

P.S. I had been using something called a derma roller on my scalp the last few weeks and a product called groganics DHT freeze

Just reading your post now. How is the remission going? I am curious, as I read a lot of good things about the derma roller.

So far so good.  More hairs growing. Terminal hairs.  Haven't been using the derma roller much, but I am taking Astaxanthin 12mg daily for about a week now.  The remission started a few months ago, so I don't know what's happening or what I'm doing or not doing but its happening all over my head.  Went to the doctor on Thursday to get tested for RA and all levels look normal for that. So it has to be spontaneous because I've got nothing else going on that would trigger this remission

That's wonderful news and gives hope to many of us! I hope the growth will continue and stay. I've ordered de dermaroller, hopefully I will have succes with it as well. Question: what needle did you use? I have ordered the 0.5mm. Thanks!

I've used ACV as well to rinse my scalp. But the things I've used such as the Derma roller, astaxanthin, ACV, haven't been consistent. I am also post menopausal so I don't know if it's my hormones adjusting or what. I know this may sound crazy but, I've read this book by Bruce Lipton called The Biology of Belief, which talks about how disease may not be caused by genetics or environment but by our subconscious thought. His theory and that of Masaru Emoto "Messages in the Water" seem to make sense to me. So for a long time I've just dreamed, visualized and meditated my head was full of hair, my eyebrows and eyelashes full and my alopecia U was cured. I know it's weird but, truthfully, that's everything that I've done so how this remission is occurring, I honestly don't know but I'm embracing it. Any changes I will most certainly post here as well. If I can get one of my daughters to take pics I'll post them here too

I had two bouts of remission after I had been diagnosed with AA at 58; the third time I lost my hair, almost 2 years ago, I lost it all and now have AU.

I sometimes see posts here by people who tell stories of hair regrowth, but never a follow-up as to if it was permanent or temporary.

I wish you the best of luck. I hope your re-growth continues and is permanent. Please keep us posted. If your re-growth turns out to be permanent it might give the rest of us some hope for the future!

Ive started out with AA which turned into AU and Ive been living with AU for almost 30 years now.  This remission or possible remission is baffling, because it just happened out of the blue.  I hope it permanent too.  At least now I have a GP who is at least interested in my disorder and ask me how am I doing where as other doctors never seemed to care.  If any changes, updates or new info I find out, I will definitely share here with you guys

Please do! Thank you...wishing you the best of luck!

Thank you!  And I wish the same for you and everyone here.  My thought process is, if it can happen for me it can happen for anyone.  Stay positive, it beats the alternative

I just have another question:-). How long were you using the derma roller, when you started to see growth? I just started last week, it's too early to say something, but I have a burning sensation when I go into the sun or when I sweat. I'm using the 0.5mm needles.

Its hard to say because even when I bought it I haven't used it consistently. I originally bought it to tighten up my skin, to stimulate my skin to make more collagen, then further reading I saw it helps with hair growth.  I may have used it for about a month then I saw hair growth.  I haven't used it in quite some time now, but my terminal hairs are still here and getting longer.  So its hard to say what is causing the remission, but the hair growth is definitely happening but I'm not sure what the mechanism for growth is

Well I'm back with an update.  Still the same tiny hairs, a few eyelashes and a few brows.  But now, after having my bloods drawn middle of last year and coming up negative for Rheumatoid Arthritis, it looks like I may have Rheumatoid Arthritis after all.  So, I'm making a connection between my AU and most auto-immune diseases I have. My doctor is putting me on Xeljanz or Abatacept I just haven't decided which one since I have asthma as well.  So, by default I may be able to see how the Xeljanz works for AU.  I just think its worthy to note that since Xeljanz works by suppressing inflammation, I may get my rheumatoid arthritis taken care of and grow hair at the same time lol

good luck.
