I developed bald spots 6 months after the birth of my first baby. As patches closed up with hair more patches formed but it never stopped for 3 years. I did find cortisone shots and minoxidil effective for regrowth but it did not help stop more patches from forming.
The thing is I just found out that I am pregnant again and have to stop all treatment until I am done breastfeeding.
I am so scared that I am going to loose all of my hair.
Does anyone have any experience or advise to share with regards alopecia while pregnant.

I have had alopecia areata since my early twenties. In the past three years I have had two kids; they are 18 months apart. My alopecia went nuts after my second baby. I wasn't in a wig, but over 55% of my head was bald. You can use a laser helmet while pregnant. You can also use tea tree oil. Believe it or not, one of the BEST things for me is a consistent yoga practice. There are many postures that not only relieve stress but also bring blood flow to your head. I am sorry that you have had hair loss. It really sucks. I know how it feels. As bad as my hair is with pregnancy, we are trying for a third. :)
The third time I got pregnant, within days of a positive pregnancy test, I found a few bald patches. My derm also said I could not do any treatment so I understand your fear and frustration. The bald spots progressed to about 90% loss on my head and about 80% loss on my body, including all my lashes and brows. I went to see a naturopathic doctor, added some vitamins, and changed my diet but so far I have had no regrowth. (my son is 5 months old now)
I don't have any advice for you because I believe alopecia will largely do what it wants to do. You may lose all of your hair like me, but many women seem to experience regrowth during pregnancy-- so hopefully that will be the case for you.
I agree with Emily, even though hair loss is hard, the joy of a baby FAR exceeds it!
