My Alopecia "ophiasis" is progressing and I've just noticed red blotches showing up on my forehead, cheeks and lower neck, and I feel flushed at times. Whats this all
about? The tingly itchy feeling has been increasing too, to the point that it's brutally frustrating to wear a hat. It isn't dry skin because I use unscented lotion on my face and arms after I shower. Any ideas or advice as to what's happening?

Hey Dave, Could it be eczema or psoriasis?
Hello Dave,

It sort of sounds like an allergic reaction to something - have you used anything new? Different food? Different places?

Certain flu/virus's can cause a blotches - do you feel sick?

Rosacea? Lupus?

Any other symptoms?
I have had those same blotches at the back of my neck at the hairline where my hair fell out years ago and they're still there, and now I've noticed they're in the front now too. The reason I was wondering, is will my hair start falling out there too? Plus it's been itching more in the front now as well.
Actually, Valerie, it does help. I also have eczema and that could explain a lot. As to why the spots never left my neck, I don't know.
Hi Dave,
I use Rogaine and get a rash on the back of my neck sometimes if I am a little to liberal with it.
Are you using Rogaine?

Jeff
No, I dont use rogaine, the only thing i use is unscented lotion and occaisionally some creme the docs gave me when the itch gets too bad to handle. I mean, it can keep me up at night when its really bad, but not very often. I can usually get rid of the itch with hydrocortisone when its mild. But no matter whether it itches or not, those red blotches never leave. Im not ready to go through this in the front if thats where this is going. The back is bad enough.
Sounds like psoriasis which is also an autoimmune condition and tends to accompany alopecia. Use Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar on it, works wonders for me!
Psoriasis could be the culprit- but I suppose it would have to be a pretty mild case. And it does flare up where the itchiness gets a lot worse. Usually lasts a day or two then settles down.
I have psoriasis and it is pink and scaly lesions that itch and flake. So that doesn't sound like what you are describing. The last derm I saw said that pink areas on the scalp indicate inflammation is present. Could this be your situation?
Its possible. I am just wondering why it looks the same as what showed up on my neck when my hair fell out and turned white growing back when it did decide to grow back. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Plus, Ill have to ask my doc about it. Maybe he has some ideas.
Hi Dave - you also said you were flushed - do you have a fever at all? Just wondering because my daughter seems to experience the same things. Her derm told me to put lidex gel on it to calm the inflammation. Hope you are feeling better soon - hang in there. :)
