I was just curious if anyone else also has rosacea...a skin disorder. I aquired this horrible skin condition at the same time I aquired my alopecia. A double whammy.

Are you taking any medications?
No, well not orally, I use a topical. Why do you ask?
I had Rosacea as a child, I'm not sure if the two are related. my alopecia only developed when I was 24/25. I didn't suffer any long term effects of Rosacea. xx
I get outbreaks of Rosacea from time to time, especially after getting flushed due to heat or extreme cold. The over-the-counter product "Prosacea" helps tame these outbreaks, and I have found that mineral makeup not only covers it beautifully but also helps it to heal quickly.
Thanks for the info.
thanks for the info
I have rosacea have have been able to keep it under control after doing extensive research and trial and error. Cleanse face with Zia Fresh Cleansing Gel. Never use products containing alcohol or any of the acids. Never scrub face. After cleansing and while the face is still damp, massage 1-2 drops Olive Virgin Oil (DHC product) into skin for about a minute until it evaporates. I use the Rosacea Care line which has moisturizers, a great sunscreen, eye cream, and serum. All the above are gentle products with very few ingredients. If you have a flare up, use cotton pads to dip into ice water and rest on the face until the "fire" calms. Aloe is suggested as well but I find the ice water just as effective and easier to use. Stay out of the sun and protect your face in cold windy weather as well. Good luck!

I had this when I was younger, I was really ill with it, I remember it made me tired and sleep most of the day away. x
I have Rosacea too. I cover it up with makeup.
I have rosacea outbreaks too. It has actually been under control over the last month but I start using metronazidole(sp?). It has helped so far and I use pur minerals makeup and that has been the best makeup I have used!

I know AA is linked to all kinds of autoimmune disorders because the same gene's are involved. I have often thought my rosacea is related to my AA but couldn't really find the research to back it up. Susan commented about it going away after beginning a gluten free diet. And a friend of mine sent me an email just two days ago because her daughter was diagnosed with celiac's and while doing her own research found out there is some connection with AA there as well. She suggested I should talk to my endocrinologist about it. I had never made that particular connection with my health conditions because I really don't have any digestive tract issues, but I am really inspired right now to do more research about ways a gluten free diet can help!!

Heather, I hope you can find a solution that works for you! I know both conditions at the same isn't easy :(
Hi Heather,

IPL (intense pulse light) lasers can really help rosacea and in some cases get rid of it completely. Might want to do a google search on it and see the before and after photos or ask your derm about it??? Just another possible option! :)
