I read a report that people with salmon patches on the nape of their neck are more likely to have AA. How many of you have this birthmark.

By Salmon patch do you mean that red splotch at the nape of my neck...well then Yes I got it.

Yes that's it. I read a study last night. It states that people with those spots tend to have AA more than people without them. Never heard this before. My daughter has the spot and is currently loosing hair. Dr. Is not sure if it's Tellegen effluvium or AA. Sort of scared me.

I understand your concern, but My Mum had the spot and several others in my family do too,I'm the only person in my family with AA.  Now I'm worried about my son who has this spot. and beautiful hair. Of course he is an adult, but it would be awful for him to lose that hair.

I also have the spot on the back of my neck and I have LPP.

What's LPP?

LPP stands for Lichen Planopilaris which is a type of scarring alopecia.  When a hair falls out my body rejects new hair and then forms scar tissue where the hair follicle was.  On the C.A.R.F. website there is a short video about it and it is more rare than Alopecia Areata.

My daughter was born with this birthmark and she has aa

I help many people with alopecia and I don't believe I have met one that does not have the salmon patch.  I noticed it years ago on my own daughter and now on those I meet who have alopecia.  Sometimes it is less vivid that others but on the whole it is always visible.

Rosy

I've got it...and have had alopecia for 43 of my 59 years.
