Hey all I've had alopecia areata for a few years now but this is the worst it's been. I just started travelling and am living in whistler. I should be having the time of my life but I'm just depressed. I can still hide the patches but hair just keeps falling out everywhere. It's started to fall out around my ears which makes me think I'm getting the ophiasis pattern. Patches that had regrown are now starting to fall out again. It just never ends. I'm at a loss with how to cope with it if it keeps getting worse. It's so hard to just accept it because I'm so self concious.

This is a very difficult period...where the hair loss is faster than the regrowth. You feel like yelling "Just give me some time to catch up."
I was living in hats and bandannas for 6 months. I was fast losing all the hair on top of my head. While impatiently waiting for the little growth in the back to grow faster. Till I just decided to take back some control and shaved it all off.
Hang in there ....I tried acupuncture for the anxiety and did find it to help.
WOW Whistler...gorgeous!!!!
You are living in Whistler, what a dream! I would suggest shave it and go bald or get a hairpiece. Just don't let it stop you from enjoying life. My 18 year old daughter lost all of her hair last year and it was awful. She now has beautiful wigs and is away at college having the time of her life. You can live with this condition. Losing the hair is the hard part because you worry about the what if's. Once they happen you just deal with it.
Hi Tim. I feel for you! I have had a patch or 2 in the last couple years but now I have 4 big patches going on!! They say its from stress but I dont feel anymore stressed out then usual. Maybe its the stress from stressing about losing my hair!! I can usually tell when it is happening. Scalp tingles and sometimes my feet will tingle too!! Have you talked to a doctor about your depression...I currently am taking medication for depression. I have also been researching treatment for regrowing hair. I have read that emu oil helps with hair growth and my hairdresser has told me about a new shampoo called revita that is suppose to stimulate hair growth. Thought I would reach out to you and say Hi and let you know that you are not alone.
Hey tim,
I know how you feel. It feels like a never ending cycle that you can't seem to get on top of. sigh..
I really hope that things start getting better, sending lots of happy thoughts your way and hope you have a great time at Whistler.
Cheers kaz
