I'm taking the big step of investing in a new high quality wig and want to hear input regarding anyone that has purchased 'The Gripper' from Peggy Knight. This is a very big purchase for me and I would appreciate any advise from those who have taken this expensive step before as well. Please let me know your pros and cons and if you think a different wig would be better and why, if possible. I have a very hot head and am afraid to try the hard shell wigs. Please share your experience and thought with me. I have had alopecia universalis for three years now and can finally purchase a quality wig. Thank you for any assistance you can supply. Judy

I've had the gripper cool for a year now, and have been very happy with it. I haven't noticed heat being a problem which is what I was most afraid of, it is very secure and the hair truly is fantastic, I wash mine once a week and it still looks great. I agree that the silk tops do look more natural, and I know that they can be hotter, I feel like you can see the lace top/netting at the part a bit and that bothers me. other than that I have been very happy, I wear the 6in because I wear it in a bob with the back shorter than the front, Please let us know what you find out and what ends up working best for you. I considered the freedom wigs but they started at about 5,000 mine was half that price and because you can't try before you buy that scared me off, what if you didn't like it, or it didn't work for you (too hot ect) Good luck with your search. Overall I'm happy I chose the Gripper.

There are a few posts here about Grippers and people loving them and not loving them. Like all wigs really.
Read back through this thread. Also there are quite a few discussions in this vein (Go figure lol), so just scroll through the threads.

From Lori on this thread
The hair in the Gripper is very nice, but is sewn into very thin wefts. Even though it is thin, the hair has nice movement. I have found, though, that the Gripper does not grip if you perspire. I bought mine for ballroom dancing and have found that during rigorous practice sessions the Gripper is a slipper. I've had better luck with custom lace wigs and Mighty Tite, or even Got 2BGlued if I know that I'm going to sweat.
In my experience, silk tops look nice, but are hot.

I had a feeling this was where you were going. :)

Hi Christine

You know I'm sure you look fab and I'm really pleased you are enjoying your choice.

Like everyone your opinion is so very valid. :)

I think the bottom line in reading all these posts is that there is no one perfect replacement product for everyone. I think Rose Marie said to make a list of your particular priorities, then try to research all options before you purchase. It is always a bit of a roll of the dice because it takes at least a couple of weeks to determine if a product will work for you and by that time it is not returnable.
I try to remind clients that this is a process and there usually are changes made before everyone is finally happy. There are many other products out there besides the ones talked about here, and there will be more in the future. It takes dedication to sort through options and a dose of good common sense. Replacement will never be just like having your own bio hair just as a prosthetic leg will never be the same as a leg lost.

I agree with you Chris.

You need to use your own needs to work out what will work best for you.

Gee, I tried to follow this thread but got extremely bored and put off with the back and forth of who said what and what they implied.

I joined AW in 2009 and have rarely been on here because I refused to be a victim of my Alopecia but time has passed and yes hundreds/thousands of dollars later I have found what I think to be a good fit for me regarding a hairpiece.

I will say that in the beginning of my search I was taken in and scammed by Amy somebody, I was also made to believe that all "human hair" wigs were great. But in the end it came down to what I was comfortable in. What I was willing to do or not do to wear a wig.

I found that my choice to purchase a Freedom hairpiece has been a good one. Granted it's not 'perfect' but nothing is more 'perfect' than our own natural hair growing. It is perfect though in the sense that no one can tell it's a wig ( I had three hairdressers with over 20 years experience each tell me they would never had known it was not my hair if they hadn't seen me in a bandana) I feel normal and extremely comfortable wearing my FW but I will say that in some situations it does get 'warm' and yes I do have some moisture but in the long run it is still a better option than something that will move around or itch or gap. I am actually working out when I want to start the process to purchase my second one.

As for the issue of custom fit, the process that FW uses allows for any issues to get worked out before the final product. I found that to prevent final issues.

I guess as a final thought what I think is helpful is to give the options and then the consumer needs to make a decision based on their needs or wants. Everything is subjective and no one product will work for everyone. But to have certain people to be motivated by their own benefit isn't beneficial to anyone.

Hi Jo
I'm agreeing with you....this is all a bit confusing and somewhat boring!
Accept my apology for the verbose nature of my replies...I feel information needs to be put forward with support... Sometimes easier said than written.
Rosy

It's okay Rosy no apology needed.

Agreed. And Thank you. My profile is and has always been transparent. I am Michael of Follea and my website address is provided in my profile. I don't normally post, except when I see deliberate deception and misinformation masquerading as "independent advice". There are literally hundreds of wig vendors out there and there is no one perfect solution for all people. I believe all Alopecians should have a choice, including the choice not to wear hair at all if they have the wish to do so, without fear of peer pressure. That is not an easy decision and I wish you all the best with your research. Michael.

Hi
In answer to Michael and Bronx post.

I agree as well.... and I'm on record many times on this forum saying this.

I need to explain my position here. I have two reasons for being here No. 1 and most importantly the condition of my daughter. As a Mum I have experience that in some circumstances can support those going through the same issues.

Secondly, my position in Freedom Wigs the Manufacturer in New Zealand. Which I always state so as not to confuse the reader of my point of view. As I've seen what freedom has done for my daughters life, this has of course made me biased and knowledgeable about these wigs.

If you take the time to read through my posts over the years I have been here in these two roles it is clear.

If RJ and Cheryl would like this to be even more prominent I'm happy to oblige.

Thanks

Rosy

Hey there!

Just thought I'd put my two cents in regarding Freedom wigs. I've only had my freedom for a couple of months, but it has changed my life completely after wearing synthetics for a year. The cap is a custom mould of your head, and once it's on, you don't notice it for the rest of the day. I don't find it hot, but when I take it off at the end of the day I notice the perspiration in the cap (which you wipe clean after use). The hair is beautiful unprocessed hair, and the implantation in the wigs is phenomenal—it really does look like your scalp! They are pricey, but definitely worth it for an active lifestyle. Here's a photo of my freedom. Hope this helps :)

Hi Amy

Lovely piccie...you look cute. Your opinion on this is just as valid as anyone else's and I personally appreciate your honest input.
