I was okay with loosing all the hair on my head, regrowing it, loosing it again and so on. Then lately I was even okay with loosing hair on my arms, legs, other areas on the body. I am okay if this stupid illness takes all my body hair BUT, don't take my frickin eyebrows or lashes. That's just going too far now. My friend is going through chemo right now and she lost all her hair but she didn't loose her eyebrows. So that tells us that alopecia is much more powerful than chemotherapy. It's just ridiculous. Today I read online that researchers partially reversed aging in mice. How about the researchers find a fricking cure for this illness instead. Find a way so I can keep my darn eyebrow.

Sorry, I just had to vent my frustration. :-(

Hi

I remember when this happened for the first time to my daughter, it seemed a lot harder than loosing her head hair, as strange as that may seem. I understand how you may be feeling - it is like the straw that breaks the camels back. All I can say in the hope of helping is that we did find our way with alternatives and make-up, while still knowing that it was ok to wear neither.

Hang in there this will improve.

Rosy
Thanks for your encouragement Rosy. This is really "the straw that breaks the camels back" as you put it. I am already looking into getting some semi-permanent tattoo eyebrows. Hopefully they won't look too freakish. I remember how worried I was about wearing my wig for the first time and now I am totally used to it, so I will get used to putting on eyebrows too. :-(
Sending a cyber hug back to you too Jennifer.
I can totally relate to how you explained the eyebrow wax strip...My daughter is also experiencing that...and finds it highly frustrating! She pencils in what is lost...but alas, her other eyebrow is so different from the left one...and she finds plucking rather painful (to try to make them look the same)
I hear you can use makeup to help create eyebrows and eyelashes...do you know anything about this?

Hope your day has some sunshine in it...huggiles to you!
I hear ya Andrea, I too was alright with the hair loss all over but losing my eyebrows and eyelashes was just plain cruel. I saw pictures of myself and I just disappeared in them. I could never get the penciled eyebrows even. So, I just got them tatooed on this past weekend and they look great, looks like real hair. It's called the hair stroke method vs one solid line. I'm really happy with them, one last thing to do in the morning. Now maybe I can tackle false eyelashes, wish me luck!
I agree wish I could say I didn't but the brows and the eyelashes are the toughest to lose the tattoo brows are great - if there was any hair I could have it would be lashes then I would not feel so "alienish"!!! But chin up lots of eyeliner or tattoo that too - I did! :-)
I agree...I miss my lashes more than anything! I had my eyebrows tattood on. Hurt like hell, and its fading now, but it works great. Better than having to draw on. As far as a cure, I feel hte same way. I think there definatly is a cure out there, just waiting to be found, but maybe there are not enough people with alopecia ( not talking male pattern baldness) for the doctors to stress over looking for a cure.
yep...it should grow back right over it. Maybe dont get it too dark. That way, if it does grow back, the tattoo will fade. Also, make sure they are good. Look at lots of pictures. For example, if you want the brow to look like hair strokes, it may cost a lil more. I asked to have that done, and she didnt. So, now I have to wait until they fade, and have some one better do them. good luck!
i'd love to hear how it goes. :)
I am right there with you. Have had this for 5 years and eyebrows and lashes held out pretty well, then a year ago they started to go. I get them both injected though and they grow back eventually, five months later it starts again and I inject them again, and so it goes
Thanks to everyone for their kind postings. It definitely helps to hear your stories and know others went through the same ordeal. Also, thanks for your suggestions. I got a pencil for the brows and hope to make that work for a while. Also the semi-permanent tattoo eyebrows will be ready for when the time comes. I guess we just roll with the punches.
Hi Andrea,

Just joining in on the conversation and I wanted to let you know that after trying out pencils, temporary tattoos (wet and stick) that I found a product that is the best I've found. I found out about on another alopecia site actually. It's made by the cosmetic company Benefit and it's a wax base that you brush on and then you follow it with a powder and I think it looks nicer than the penciled look. They have two products that offer the same thing, one is called Brows a-go-go and the other is Brow Zings. I've used this product for close to a year I guess and I'm pretty happy with it though it does take time getting used to it.

I've also considered the permanent makeup route and I'm currently on a quest to get that done hopefully in the next few weeks. I'm sure I'll wish that I had done it sooner but the idea had to grow on me first, and after trying injections and topic creams I can see that that cycle is endless.

Good luck and I hope you find something that you like!
