I have tried the steroid shots in the head and they didn't work at all. Last week I started the topical DCP therapy. Has anyone tried this? All I know right now is it burns extremely bad. I'm so tired of doctors.

I tried it unsuccessfully at the stage when I had lost about 40% of head hair, body hair and some of my eye lashes. It was all falling out, and nothing was going to stop it. When I was usingthe DCP, I woke to a weeping itching scalp where I had scratched my head in my sleep, and I gave up on it. I too was sick of doctors at that stage. I found a good pyscologist and a support group instead, and I have been happily (except a melt down once every few months of course) bald all over for three years. I have met a few people who have tried, it, but no one that is was successful for. Good luck, I hope you have a better outcome than I did.
I know that it is successful for some people. Let us know how it goes.
I tried the DCP treatments before and I hated it even more than the injections. My head would burn, blister and weep. It would take the entire time between appointments to heal before I would start the whole process again. Not worth it. Besides I couldnt help to think why am I putting myself thru such hell for a "chance" of growth. Once you stop the treatments for any length of time, our bodies will just take it back anyway.
I did it for 6 months and it was pure hell! Hope it works better for you!
Hallo JB,
I had DCP treatment, it helped great, my hair were complete regrow, but later I had much stress, and
I lost my hair again.
Please try not to be nervious , I hope it will help you much.
Hi, I am a father of a Finnish 16 y old girl. And our experience has been good. She got Alopecia when she was 8y. 2 years we were searching cure but nothing helped. On that time 40% of hair was lost. Then we heard about DPC. Had the treatment once a week for 3 months, then all hair grew back. Since then we have found out based on experience that for her the treatment every 5 weeks keeps the Alopecia away. I am actually writing to this site, because she wants to come to US for student exchange for one year. Naturally she wants to continue the DPC as otherwise her hair would fall. I tried through www.naaf.org to find dermatologists in US, but they knew only Richard Strick, M.D. in Southern California who uses DPC. To me that was suprising as it works so well for many people. Could anybody help us to find contacts for this treatment in order to make her dream of one year is US to come true. Thanks for reading this long essay :-).
Hi my name is Angie. Just joined this site today. Accidently came across it while looking for more wig sites. I started alopecia at age 12 and im now 46. (34 years a sufferer).
Quick profile - Started at 12 years old and then at the age of 20 something changed, trichotillamania kicked in too...
Anyway I dont know about DPC treatment, however i do read up on trich..info and found this info which may also stem to alopecia. Root problem is a depletion or imblance of critical (Brain) neurotransmitters. (Body Biology) (Chemical Signals/Biochemical formation. When imbalance in neurotranmitters occur, info is not relayed optimally in the brain creating all sorts of symptoms - maybe..an answer is to rebuild the natural supply of neurotransmitters which may help restore the hair. This info is on the website ...stoppullinghairout.com by Dr Chad Oler or Ph 8668886721 $60.00 dollar for consultation fee, who has a centre in Madison, Wisconsin. I live in New Zealand and abit scared to make the ph call. so far away and may not be $60 for my ph call. Please have a look at this site. For me I believe in reading the info this may be the true cause of how alopecia started for me and my connection to trichotillamania. Hoping this may help as another alternative contact for your daughter. My heart and love goes out to you.
Hi
thanks Angie for your reply. Sorry to hear you are now pulling your hair in addition to AA. I don't know anything about that but the web site looked somewhat suspecious to me, I would not pay for phone consultation I would trust doctors.
Regarding DPC I have now found out that DPC is not FDA approved in US. It is approved and widely used in Europe and Canada for 18 years. Therefore there seems to be not much options to get the treatment in US. Some derms give the treatment with their own risk (I assume because of the fear of legal implications if smtg goes wrong). However it has worked well for us. Most important is to find out the rigth stregth of the dose over several weeks of treatment; if too high the result is excessive itchiness or blistering if too low no effect. There should be only slight redness on the scalp and mild itchiness. Best site to describe the condition and potential causes I have found is this http://www.keratin.com/ad/
In one of the sub pages also the DPC treatment is described very accurately matching our experience. If anyone wants more info on our experience, I am happy to give.
Anyways now we are looking for exchange student options in Canada as well.
Thank you for your reply. Im still finding my way around the page.Thank you for the new site. I will check it out now.
No, it is not correct, DCP is not approved in Europe.
I live in Germany, and a doctor did it, if I undersign a document, it is my own risk.
Hi, ok you may be rigth. It is better to say it is widely used in Europe and Canada and also in other countries. In Finland the treatment is offered both by public hospitals (not available everywhere) and private hospitals. One does not need to sign any consent or any other document, which means countries healt care system is responsible if any harm. The public health care is free of charge in Finland for everybody (funded by taxation). In privite hospitals one treatment cost ca. 40EUR (50USD). Not very much to me (at least much less than some hobbies of Lauriina :-). So far in 18 years no long term side effects have been reported. However everyone naturally makes his/her own decisions. We can only speak about our experience, which is only positive.
