Hello Patsy in Bonnie Scotland! I'm a wee way below you in rain swept Wales!
Possibly different types of wig suit different wearers? What most wig wearers possibly don't appreciate is that there's more than one way to wear every wig and toupee. The following really is a true story:
My first wife's Uncle Ken lost his crowning glory as a very young man, but was still left with a lower surrounding fringe (the 'airport look' as Russians say). So he opted for a matching pair of toupees.
He was a small skinny man, full of life, never stopped talking, an absolute know it all (or so he thought) but with an infectious sense of humour. Also, he was careful with his money and after 45 years of daily wearing his hair there were more bald netting patches than strands of remaining hair.
So he visited a toupee supplier to order a new pair of crowning glories.
WIG MAKER: Mr. Q. do you intend wearing your new toupees in just the same way as this pair?
KEN: Of course! I'm not stupid. Everyone knows that the hair goes on the outside!
WIG MAKER: Very funny Mr. Q. but I refer to the fact that for 45 years you've worn your hair pieces back to front.
KEN: Oops.
Hello everyone,
As you can see from my pic., I haven't got anything on.Shortly after having written my message here I made my "coming out" outside and am very pleased I did. So nice not to have a wig or a turban or whatever. If I fear being cold because of air-conditioning for ex. I wear a long scarf which I can always put on my head (never did all thro' the summer) I also wore a hat in the sun sometimes. What worries me now tho' is that it's gonna get cold soon, I think I'd rather wear turbans than look for a 2nd wig. I certainly wouldn't have shaved my hair but since I haven't got any hair left better make the most of it and feel as fine as possible.
Hi Bronx
This is not the norm with the process of getting a Freedom Hairpiece. If a cap was made for Patsy it would have been something that was very specific to her needs. Independent Agents will often go out of the normal process to try and help a client. For most it isn't about selling but helping someone like themselves with alopecia.
I don't believe anything particularly special has been done, but possibly, if Patsy wanted to get some reassurance around the process.
If you are talking about the fitcap Bronx...that is a fitting process to check accuracy. I think it could be worn to understand some of the 'fitting feel' from a Freedom Wig.
In Patsy's case maybe something special has been arranged. As I don't have your or Patsy's full name I can't really find out for you both. If Patsy would like me to explain for her in more techy type language I'm happy to do so (Patsy just message me your name). The same with you Bronx (feel free to message me your name) and I'll be able to access the information around what has and is happening for you both.

Hi Bronx
If the heat is coming from within you (like menopause or thyroid conditions), there is little any wig will be able to to do to combat your heat problem. As you have said your lace wigs have some terrible problems when you perspire as well (no security, sweat and oil build up in the hair etc.) There is no perfect but there is very good. My daughters feeling around heat and Freedom is opposite to yours. She finds them incredibly comfortable and the other wigs she has tried she has found itchy and hot. That's just her opinion...but I have to say there are thousands who wear Freedom around the world...you and her being two of them.
Your experience is with other wigs and maybe for a short while with Freedom. If you have worn Freedom for 30 years I would think maybe it was a alternative that suited you in most instances....I don't want to assume either of the above. How long have you had a Freedom Wig?
I consider myself an expert on Freedom...I understand the full manufacture process and what their features and benefits are. I help people in New Zealand with this choice of wig. My daughter has worn them for the last 10 years...they really aren't for everyone but most people would see the benefits of wearing them, if a very good wig is required.

Hi Shel
Just as another alternative to what Bronx and Lori pass on...:)
There is a lovely lady here that swears by the lace wigs she gets for her daughter from China. They sound as if they are reasonably priced and may be an option for you.
Here is her profile, you may like to contact her.

You make a lot of sense around human hair.
I personally prefer unprocessed virgin human hair as human beings who grow long hair (as that is what is required for even most shorter length human wigs) usually have beautiful hair otherwise they wouldn't grow it. :)
If you deal with unprocessed virgin hair there is always variation...no people farms out there and it takes a long time for an individual to grow their hair. Also, everybodys growing hair is individual to them. You really have to take this on board if you are dealing with unprocessed virgin human hair. Every wig you get will have variations in it. Sort of like buying a wooden table the structure can be the same but the grain is always different.
I've always felt quite confused by people saying the best hair is from Russia (which even though definately improving now..was really somewhat of a third world country with all the ramifications that brings). You need very healthy individuals for healthy hair. People who have access to a fairly good standard of living.
I truly wish manufacturers didn't process human hair...as it really does come back to the consumer as a lesser product.(I fully understand why they do this but still wish they didn't). I get very frustrated with the hair extension industry as well. Those in this community who need hair really need the best quality hair...not something that is easy to produce (often hand tied and wefted wigs are cheaper to produce because the processing done on the hair, means they can be made quickly and effectively with machines or cheaper labour in China etc.). People really need the best there is that works for them. If people want to process their hair once they get a wig that should be absolutely doable and empowering for the wearer. Again just my opinion.

Rose speaks intelligently about some of the issues around using human hair.
In a previous post somewhere I talked about a shortage of good quality human hair and someone remarked that "As long as there are people there will be hair available." But the fact is that there aren't that many people that grow good hair, do not process it with chemicals AND want to sell it. The best hair available has to be obtained from people with a higher standard of living and most of these people covet their hair and do not sell it.
There is also an issue arising in China relating to finding people that ventilate wigs. The tech industry is now offering more money to ventilators and of course they will take these offers.
I predict that in the future you will see that more synthetic products are offered, some of them are quite nice. Also, machine made caps still need to be sewn by hand, hopefully there will be a labor force that wants to do this work. The need for good hair replacement will not go away, so we have to keep the faith that the industry will overcome the issues that are arising.
