Just curious!

I have AU and have been completely bald for 3 years. I've found what makes me most comfortable is this: At home I will wear a scarf/sleepcap/bandana, and in public I wear a wig.

I just ventured out on a walk this fall in a beaubeau (exercise scarf), which was a big step for me! I still feel more self-conscious in a beaubeau than in a wig, but I got tired of coming home from a walk and having to wash my wig because I got so hot. I started to feel kind of silly wearing a wig to walk around the neighborhood, when almost all of my neighbors know I have alopecia anyway!

I only go bald if I'm very hot in the house or in a car, which is rarely.

Even if I'm the only one in the house, I'll put a scarf on (but I also wear full make-up if I'm the only one home, too - so I guess that's just me)!

At home I usually go bald, sometimes at winter I wear a hood to stay warm. I've always been somewhat scared of wigs so I go outside wearing a hat/cap. I wish I had so much confidence as some of you to go out bald and stop hiding! Especially since hats don't always match to what I want to wear so I often end up dressing up to match one of my hats, it's silly but hard to get over

I've had AU for 18 months and go bald 100% of the time. I've never owned a wig and only wear something on my head when I absolutely have to - typically when it's freezing cold. The one thing that made a huge difference in my self esteem was permanent make-up. I had my eyebrows and eyeliner done earlier this year....it's so worth it! I'm a bit more careful with what I wear because when you're bald it's pretty easy to be perceived as a "bass ass" :o)

I never go without a sleepcap at home unless I'm home alone .

Oh my!! It was like reading about myself!! I have a follea wig. I also have a few beau beau scarves and love them!! About a year ago I said the heck with it, I'm going to go walking in my exercise beau beau and a baseball hat! Such a difference. Of course I ran into people I know, but I'm stronger now to deal with it. I live in the valley in southern California and its still 100+ outside. I wear a beau beau and a pretty sun hat everywhere. I prefer my scarves over my wig, although when I get gussied up, my wig looks fantastic! I get the best of both worlds. I have AU so make up is tricky. For brows, I use Stamp me Fabulous (.com). People have no idea!! Oh, I've also been bald for 3 years and it gets better. I too wear scarves in the house. It just feels better:)

I wear wigs outside/in public, and these wonderful, cotton knit skullcaps with a head band when at home. I buy the skullcaps/headbands in a "Korean wig store". I have them in many colors to match my nightwear, but mostly wear the dark brown ones because they match my skin tone.

I have had my wig for a month. I find it still hurts if I wear it all day, but I am lucky that I don't go to work every day so I don't have to wear it every day. So far I am washing it every 7-10 wears, which is around three times a month.

I have a synthetic wig that is easier to put on but doesn't look as good/real. I wear that when I am just running to the store or going someplace where I don't care much about my appearance. I have washed it once and it already looks kind of crappy.

I still have about quarter inch of hair on most of my head. I do have a receding hairline, but I've had it so long I'm pretty used to it. Besides that, my bald spots are all on the crown so I need a mirror to see them. At home, I have gotten used to wearing nothing. I have a wig band I sometimes wear. We will see if I get cold in the winter--hadn't thought about that!

I put a scarf or bandana on to go to the gym.
