Hello
I bought a real hair wig (Vivica Fox brand), front lace 2 weeks ago. It's matting within seconds (rats nest!) and its extremely dry. I read about the Bleach Baths but where I live in Canada you cannot buy pure ammonia. What else can I do?
PS I also think the cuticles are not all in the same direction.
Please help!
Thanks :)

Vivica Fox and Sheri Shepard (Sheep Head) wigs i learned to stay away from. I've bought cheaper wigs than theirs that lasted a longer.
There are other tricks that i learned on some forums. If it's a synthetic wig, soak it in fabric softener - since it is synthetic. At first it will feel hard when you take it out of the water after about 10 mins. Make sure the water is cold. Once the wig dries and you brush it out, it should be a bit softer.
If it's a tight curly wig, no brushing, of course.
I've also heard of the bleach bathes - which really? you can't go wrong with those.
Someone also stated on youtube putting your wig in a pillow case and making sure the pillow case is tied off, and letting it tumble in the dryer with low temperature. Brush out the wig afterwards it should be fluffy, soft. This works mainly with straight wigs.
i don't konw about the bleach bathes, if you want good wigs then i will recommend the wig of hairplusbase, they can last about 6 months and can be dyed into another colors
It sounds like a cuticle in the wrong direction issue. I don't think there is a good fix. I buy from qdhairbeauty.com and have had less issues and a good price.
You are exactly right, the hair was not installed in the right direction. Also, the quality of the hair is poor. If I were you I would try to get my money back. You could contact the company you purchased from or contract your credit card company and tell them that the quality of the product was substandard. If you get a chance please read my post on my trip to China to find the best factory for human hair custom wigs for my daughter. I am happy to say that I no longer have to purchase wigs that are substandard. I have cracked the code on wigs for my daughter and I am happy to help anyone with wig advice or the design of a human hair custom wig for those with medical hair loss.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have a wig with low quality hair. Either the cuticles were left on and you have both ends of a strand of hair in your piece, meaning cuticles up and down next to each other (creating a rat's nest), OR you have a processed human hair wig where they try to process the cuticle so much it doesn't act up, but it always will eventually. This is so so frustrating... and I am so sorry. Been there so many times and felt so cheated, angry, embarrassed to wear it, etc. I've never found a way to fix processed human hair so that it does not matte. I have pieces I treat with the oils and special leave in conditioners, and even then, the best I can hope for is to wear them, hair pulled back in a low pony tail. If you want hair that does not matte, it's going to cost $$$. You would be better off with a synthetic wig than what you have. Again, I feel your pain and I wish there was an answer other than you bought a piece with crappy hair. (this assumes you mean human hair when you say "real hair") yes?
