Hello!
My name is Allie Roop. I have had Alopecia since I was 2 years old. I went completely bald around age at 8 and it all grew back by the time I was 13. Since then I have had no problems with alopecia until about a year ago.
I am now a sophomore at Millikin University in Decatur Illinois and I have absolutely no idea what to do. I have almost no hair left and my eyebrows are starting to fall out. (which has never happened to me so thats pretty freaky) I get by day to day by wearing a thick black workout head band to cover the thinning but that is not really working any more.
That all being said I was hoping someone could post about the good and bad experiences they have had with wigs.
I would love all of the help and support I could get!
Thank youuu!

Hey Alexandra! I've been wearing wigs since I was 12--and my early experiences were awful because I had the type of wig that required double-sided tape to stay to my head. It was such a hassle getting ready for school, and I used to never want to go out on weekends because it took forever to put on. It was itchy and in the summers, the tape would melt into this goop...gross! But since 2008, I've had the kind of wig that doesn't require tape at all--it just sort of 'suctions' itself to your head. It's still a little hot and uncomfortable (especially in the humid summers), but you get used to it, and it isn't bad at all. The wigs are made with lace netting, so they "breathe" and might be more comfortable in the end than the workout headband you're using right now.
I recommend finding a wig specialist in your area and trying on at least one wig to see if you like it. Good luck!!
What I did for my approx 24 wigs is to have them CUSTOM RESIZED REFITTED & ALTERED TO
fit my tiny 17'' head like a ''glass slipper'' & had DERMAFIX sewn into the caps & I wear
a Sure Grip gel headband under my wig. This way NO TAPE NO GLUE NO ADHESIVE. I wear wigs
24/7 & they stay securely on my head,& the combination of Dermafix/Sure Grip provides
the vacuum type suction.

i know your feeling traci i had a horrible one that i had tape and glue, and there were times i ran out of glue and therefore i didnt go out on the weekends, it was horrible hot and itchy too
ive got a suction based one now and its amazing...
My daughter is a college student and wears all lace wigs that she tapes on with super tape. She changes them in the shower. She has her eyebrows tattood and wears false eyelashes. We order from a chinese website that we are happy with. Message me and I will send you the link to the site we use.
Getting a WARDROBE of approximately 24 wigs has taken away my anxiety/panic over losing almost
all my hair in 2011 from a rare type of alopecia. I highly recommend that you get yourself a
collection of wigs,as I am certain you will feel so much better if you do. It takes away all the
fear/terror of hair loss. My wigs are all custom resized/refitted to fit my head EXACTLY & I have
dermafix sewed inside the cxps & wear Sure Grip gel headband to add further ''staying'' power. I even
sleep in wigs.I wear wigs 24/7 & love them, I do NOT need any tape/glue/adhesive as they stay securely on my head. Feel free to contact me at my email MarshaLampert@aol.com
Well i have had both bad then good experiences,
i was loosing my hair rapidly in 2010 and made a rushed decision to invest in a wig from this company called whitecliffs, it was the worst decision i had made in my life and put myself and my family out of pocket $$$$$$ thousands of dollars cause having a wig is a investment....
I then invested in a wig from freedom hair - in new zealand, i saw a representative in melbourne australia, and they were amazing in 3 months i had a amazing wig and it was so much just my own hair before i had lost it...i suggest to choose the company you buy a wig from wisely cause at the time all you want is hair but you have to think of the long term commitment of wearing these wigs
good luck, and i know what your going through.... thinking of you xoxoxoxo natalie, melbourne australia :)
I am glad to hear that this site is good for you also. What does the thin skin look like? I haven't tried it yet. Is it as natural looking? Can you send me pics privately? Thanks
Could you possibly message me the company website where you buy these wigs you were talking about?!
Thanks so much!
I use 2 products simultaneously that are like a thin skin perimeter,INSTEAD of
tapes,glues & adhesives, I use DERMAFIX & SURE GRIP(beauti mark)
If you want/need website URL'S Please email me at MarshaLampert@aol.com
Can you please email me info about the THIN SKIN you mentioned?
It sounds just like dermafix, which is also described as skin like, which I use,
(it gets sewn into my wig caps) so that I do NOT need any TAPE/GLUE/ADHESIVE

Hi Natalie, I am hoping that you will be able to help me. I am thinking about buying a freedom wig from the outlet in Brisbane. I have female pattern hair loss, so will still need to shave my head to wear a freedom wig. Do you have to shave your head and if so how often do you do so? Are you REALLY happy with your freedom wig and do the positives outweigh the negatives with owning one? I am really fed up with my own hair. At the moment I wear a Raquel Welch synthetic wig and I really like it, BUT I want to be able to swim and use a motor bike helmet. Do you think you can give me a little more info on how things are going for you with your freedom wig. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
