Hi everyone!
So I thought I was in the clear after all my hair fell out last winter. I was TOTALLY bald, every last hair came out! It started growing in about March, and I had a new thick head of hair after slooowly growing in patches. But by the end of this summer, I was missing 20% of it again. At this point, I'm up to 60%+ missing and have no hair to cover up other hair again. Crap.

So I am going to man up and finally get a wig. Last year I just wore hats, which I totally hated. I'm not a hat girl, and I felt like it made a statement about myself that I didn't identify with.

Anyway, I know almost exactly what I want. Short and blonde, Michelle Williams style. I think I can slyly pretend I just had a great hair cut and dye job, rather than a wig overhaul.

Anyway, I'm just not sure where to start. The only local places in Philadelphia I know of seem to only carry cheap quality, tacky stuff. But I am too scared to just order online/from a mag having no experience wearing them!

If anyone can help, in or out of Philadelphia, I would really appreciate it! I could also go to NYC if needed, but I am not totally sure I can afford NYC prices.

Thanks!!

Hello,
I'm new to alopecia world, but not to alopecia. I lost 65% of my hair at 35 years of age. I wear wigs daily, but I'm going to take it off this November when my husband and I go on our cruise vacation. It will be my first time not wearing my wig in public. I order most of my wigs on line. Check out Katourlinewigs.com. I'm not sure about their caucasian wigs, but the pictures look nice, and they are good with the short cuts. they are not cheap, prices are around, $130 dollars.
Good Luck!
Hi Julie! I'm from Boston, but I have family in Philly and NJ and I visit them a few times a year! I love Philly! You might want to join the group Philidelphians with Alopecia. I bet you'll get some hits with them. I went to NYC last weekend...they have high end dealers and cheap stores. You need to do your research on what you want and how much you want to spend. Google your stores in Philly..then make appointments and go try them on - even the cheap ones. My friends love my cheap wig so much that when I'm not wearing it, they are! Good luck with your hunt. Have fun!
hello, i'm Essence...

i highly recommend forever young wigs. they are synthetic but the quality is so fantastic!! noone will know. they also cost about 40$ each so you could get a few and switch it up so one doesn't get too used up... they last for about 3-5 months if well maintained... i have a few forever young wigs and i LOVE them!! the fiber's are super soft... i buy them from voguewigs.com but here's a direct link...

i also get my human hair wigs from http://www.hisandher.com/. it's in california but you can order one and the hair quality is great. each wig lasts me about 6-12 months. and the best part about human hair is you can curl and straighten it which is fabulous!!!

good luck & sorry i didn't give you any info for the Phili area but i hope you find what you're looking for =)
Hi,
Welcome! I live in South Jersey. I have purchased my wigs from JA Alternatives for years. They have offices all over but a convenient one in Marlton. Their wigs are custom and a human hair blend. I have Francis at Pileggi (Philadelphia) cut and color the. He is amazing!
Thank you everyone!
My insurance company says they'll cover up to $300 for the year. So I think I am going to try some on at the not-so-great local store and then order online! Susan (and everyone else of course), thanks for those links!
wigsalon.com
and www.namebrandwigs.com
both have good quality and affordable, discounted wigs.
I like the brand Rene of Paris. They look very natural
