Xeljanz (Tofacitinib Citrate): My experience on the trial
I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Yes xeljanz miracle I went to 3 pills very quickly after 4 weeks. Now the question is whether or not I'll be able to maintain it with two pills or even one. Since going down to two pills I haven't had any NEW growth such as eyelashes or what eyebrows I didn't grow back. For me, three pills definitely did the trick. I wish that everyone was having these results I believe that if this jak inhibitor isn't working another one will .. You are on your way xeljanz miracle - slow and steady growth is growth!

Also now that having growth you should add rogaine 5% it really boosted my growth I believe

Did you go down to 2 pills a day for financial reasons? Also, how much is the Rogaine?

Yes that and I really didn't want to take a third pill with the obvious health risks. I have been fine this far but don't want to immunosuppress myself even further. I miss my lashes and would love to have them back but I was grateful to just have my head back I don't need more than that. The rogaine is 50$ in cvs it comes with two bottles and lasted me about two months .. I know you can probably find cheaper on Amazon. But make sure 5% for women it's the strongest. Can also buy the generic minoxidil I saw it in Walgreens

Thanks for the info. Funny how we all have varying results. I have teeny lashes on both sides, but more on my left. I actually used mascara for the first time in 6 years last Saturday. You can still barely see them and some of them are blonde, but they are there, lol! Did you have any lash growth at all on 15 mgs? Also, is your scalp hair continuing to grow? I know your wedding is in a few months.

I did have some lash growth maybe half on the left side only three black hairs on the right while on 15mg. I don't mind wearing false ones. Yes hair is continuing to grow just no new hairs (if that makes sense). I'm at about 2 1/2 inches now. Yes wedding is in June I'm in a race for it! Lol. Happy to hear you have some lashes growing back :)

I'm glad to hear that your hair is still growing lengthwise on 10 mgs. You don't have anymore bald spots to fill in right? Also after you put the Rogaine on at night, do you cover your hair up with something?

No more patches on head. I am patchy in other places - legs and private parts sorry to be graphic lol. No I put it on either in morning or at night usually whenever I get out of shower. It gets absorbed right into your skin I like the foam one it's like a mousse.

That's Good. Thanks for info on Rogaine. I thought it was for a different kind of alopecia; not autoimmune related.

Salut Nicolas je suis francais aussi et je suis le post depuis sa sortie et xeljanz depuis 2014 alors si tu veut que l'ont se parle je serais content pour que l'ont puisse discuter car en France la plupart ne connaisse pas encore les inibitheur jak il y'a ruxolitinib mais tres cher
